Border Security Thread: I am sick and tired of all the hand-wringers in both parties. First, it was that there was no crisis. Then it was that the drugs only come through ports of entry. Now it’s a “humanitarian crisis” but not a drug crisis, etc.... (1/x)
The fact is that we have an unprecedented flow of human beings that is overwhelming the Border Patrol (@bpunion)... and that it is directly the result of our failure to secure our border for years because idiotic politicians in BOTH parties... (2/x)
...have failed to take it seriously while hiding behind identity politics or the need for cheap labor and false premises like citizenship based on soil... And now cartels & unscrupulous actors are profiting on the trafficking of human beings... (3/x)
... These are facts. Stash houses where migrants are held captive to pay off cartels. A business model wherein it is estimated the Reynosa faction of the Gulf Cartel will make over $130MM this year moving people... upwards of 400,000 across the RGV Sector... (4/x)
Now we have 100,000 illegal entrants apprehended this March... we have 13,400 in custody (well over highest capacity)... CBP is catching & releasing before ICE involved... We are unable to screen to protect for health & well-being of migrants or stop dangerous migrants... (5/x)
And every bit of this is something we have the power to control, but refuse to do. What could we do? 1) We should change the rule arbitrarily forced upon us by the 9th Circuit, End Catch-And-Release & immediately detain families together, & children in safe confines... (6/x)
...2) we should have the military, CBP & everyone we can muster put together enough beds, tents, houses, & whatever is necessary to house those not turned away, 3) we should tighten application of existing asylum laws to immediately turn away those who do not qualify (7/x)...
...4) we should clear cane, build roads lateral to the Rio Grande, & complete massive expansion of the border fence b/c it will help regain operational control of border from cartels, 5) we should designate cartels as Foreign Terrorist Orgs & take steps to undermine them. (8/x)
..6) we should make sure Border Patrol has assets it needs to do its job, including cameras, sensors, and planes/choppers under their direction... and we should pay Border Patrol the rates necessary to get more to sign up... (9/x)
...7) Congress should take immediate steps to improve drug interdiction to stop flow of the 113 pounds & growing of fentanyl that comes in between our ports of entry (FACT)... & otherwise quit lying about the danger posed by open borders w/r/t to highly dangerous narcotics (10/x)
... there is no excuse for what @SpeakerPelosi is doing to these migrants while pretending to be compassionate... and to Americans by pretending the border is secure, when it plainly is not. Tell that to the parents of #JaredVargas... and (11/x)
...the countless Americans dying from narcotics or the hands of those illegally present... & tell that to the Border Patrol agents putting their lives on the line... & tell that to the little girls I talked to coming from Honduras w/o parents on this dangerous journey... (12/x)
... We have a duty to secure our border. We have a duty to be serious about our offer of asylum to the select few being truly persecuted w/o turning it into a profit machine for cartels at the expense of Americans & the migrants who seek to come here. #SecureOurBorderNow (13/13)
