Take a look at this map of Richmond. Each green space represents a food desert, where many folks live more than a mile away from the nearest grocery store.
My Healthy Food Access for All Americans Act would encourage grocery stores and other healthy food options in neighborhoods like these all across Virginia — in both urban and rural communities. warner.senate.gov/public/index.c…
I'm heading back from Richmond after an important conversation with community leaders about what we can do to expand healthy food access for folks who live in food deserts.

Yesterday, I went to the Senate floor to mark #PublicServiceRecognitionWeek and say ‘thank you’ to our federal workers. I also recognized three Virginians who’ve gone above and beyond the call of duty during their careers:
Ambassador Michael Kozak of Arlington, VA, has served at the State Department for 47 years under 9 presidents. He has been an advocate for democracy and human rights abroad and been at the forefront of many historic negotiations.
Kara De Castro of Haymarket, VA has done important work at the National Nuclear Security Administration, resulting in the downgrading of 17 metric tons of highly enriched uranium — the equivalent of 446 nuclear weapons.

If the Majority Leader wants to move on, he should let the Senate do its job. Congress does not work for the President. Congress is a co-equal branch of government. It’s time to start acting like it.
The case will be closed when we’ve secured our elections against foreign interference. If the Majority Leader really wants to “move on,” he could start by allowing the Senate to consider the bipartisan Secure Elections Act.
The case will be closed when Congress has finished its legitimate oversight responsibilities. That means letting Congress finish its review of the Mueller investigation.

To say I'm pissed off is an understatement. I spent most of the day yesterday listening to military families in Norfolk and at Fort Lee who are living in outrageous conditions due to private housing contractors like @lincolnmilitary who are frankly not doing their jobs.
I heard about mold, so much mold. I heard about asbestos, fires, crab infestations, and worse. Seriously.
The way these military families are being treated is just not right, and I'm going to keep fighting until we solve the problem — and not just for a little bit.

In #RVA: From 2000 to 2016 the Black population decreased by 7% and the White population increased by 35%. In 2000, Blacks were 57% of the population and Whites were 38%. In 2016, Blacks were 47% and Whites were 46% of the population. richmond300.com/sites/default/…
While the Latinx community only made up 6.5% of Richmond’s total population, 11% of school-aged children were Latinx in 2016 (compared to 3% in 2000).
Between 2000 and 2016, all areas of #RVA experienced a growth in HS graduation rates, except for parts of Southside, which showed declining HS graduation rates. In areas of Southside, especially along Hull St and Jeff Davis Hwy, many residents over 25 don't have a HS diploma.

Let us start with something simple, the logos.

Which Coke logo do you recognize?
Where I am from, the bottom Coke Logo is what I have known my entire life. It is a dash/hyphen and it had curly ends to match the font. I am convinced of this and would refuse to deny it if you put a young to my head.

This is what the Coca Logo looks like for over 100 years.
Not only does the "apostrophe" (dot) look wrong, it's an affront every time I see it. For me, this was the undeniable proof that I am somewhere else. In another reality. This isn't pie in the sky stuff, this isn't esoteric, this is real and undeniable.

Why are Latin Americans migrating to a Capitalist Republic and not to Socialist Countries? Venezuela is not a good example, but there’s Cuba, both Nicaragua and Guyana have socialistic Government tendencies. Why not migrate there?
There are many options if you relocate to Asia!
Why does the Left/Liberals desire to change this Nation into a Socialist Society, when none of the Socialist Countries are not desirable, even though some of those Countries are located in a desirable tropic area?

This morning I've finished Scott Kellys (@StationCDRKelly) Book "Endurance" ( bit.ly/endurance-scot… ). Some thoughts below.
First, thank you Scott for sharing your story along with many personal insights from your time in space. It's great to learn more about the long path to become an astronaut and all the immense effort behind the human space program.
While reading Scotts book I got to understand the scale of the challenges coming with living and working in space better. It starts with having no gravity assisting you with daily life, keeping yourself healthy and alert for the hostile environment you are living in.
