1/ This week Google made a very unusual product announcement—Anthos—a computing platform that supports on-prem, GCP and competing cloud vendors. In other words, Google will help enterprises run their workloads on AWS!
2/ The pure cloud strategy is clearly not working for Google—you only enable your competitors when you have no other option. Google is trying to win over customers by being the most open, by being "multi-cloud", by being a meta-layer to orchestrate all workloads.
3/ This is basically Nutanix's whole playbook. Nutanix wants to "make infrastructure invisible". They started by abstracting away storage, then networking, and now all local and public clouds.
4/ The big difference is that Nutanix started from enterprise and is moving up the stack to public clouds. Google is starting from GCP and back-tracing to on-premise.

To succeed, you must *get* enterprise computing. And Google thus far has struggled to *get* enterprise.
5/ On-premise is still 70% of the IT infra TAM. If Google is serious about winning enterprise + winning multi-cloud, it should acquire Nutanix.

Nutanix *gets* enterprise. It's best-in-class and eating up VMWare.

Buying Nutanix could end up as impactful as buying DoubleClick.
