NDP leader @AndreaHorwath: In Peel, where 369 lay-off notices have gone out to teachers the superintendent of human resources says this is not normal. This is not routine. This is real and it is bad. Does Ford think he’s not telling the truth? #onted#onpoli
Horwath: Students & their parents just don’t believe Ford.
They see the plan for larger classes & fewer courses. They hear his overheated rhetoric and they don’t see a plan for education.
They see a recipe for cuts in the classroom and chaos in schools. #onted#onpoli
Horwath (unable to get an answer from Ford, turns to Minister of Education): Does the Minister of Education consider it a job loss if a teacher is laid off from a full-time position but is offered occasional supply teaching instead? #onted#onpoli
Horwath: Parents and students don’t need 100s of supply teachers waiting at home for work opportunities; they need educators in our schools, helping students succeed. This week, over 2,000 educators have received a letter saying there’s no job for them in September. #onpoli
Horwath: As one of the many teachers who received a layoff notice put it:
“Only in Doug Ford’s Ontario, could I receive an Award of Distinction one week, and a letter confirming my job loss for September 2019 in the next week” #onted#onpoli#CutsHurtKids
Horwath: Angel Roberts from Emery Collegiate said at our town hall this week: “the technology is outdated (at our school), and has not been upgraded to stand up to the current tech needs of students. With Ford’s push towards e-learning, the need is clear. We need better tech.”
Horwath: What does Ford have to say to students like Angel, whose schools haven’t received the investments they need for the technology to support his ill-conceived e-learning scheme?
(based on Ford's response: nothing at all) #onpoli#onted
NDP MPP @john_vanthof: When it comes to promoting themselves Ford believes in big govt:
— millions of taxpayer dollars on partisan ads.
— Threatening businesses w huge fines
Will Ford tell us how much of the public’s money he plans to spend on his partisan ad campaign? #onpoli
(Ford's Minister for Partisan Gas Station Stickers responds that the federal govt did it first or something.) #onpoli
Vanthof: Families want to see investment in their schools and their healthcare system, but they’re getting cuts while the Ford govt invests all of their time and money promoting Ford and his partisan agenda. #onpoli
Vanthof: Earlier today, we wrote to Elxns Canada, since it looks like the Ford's stickers fit the definition of elxn ads under federal law. Will the stickers come down during the #cdnpoli elxn? Or will Ford force gas stations to register as third party advertisers? #onpoli
NDP Culture critic @JILLSLASTWORD: 50% cut to Southern and Northern Ontario Library Services will devastate Ontarians' ability to access library services. Why is the ministry taking away Ontarians’ access to books and other vital resources libraries provided to Ontarians? #onpoli
Andrew: As a city councilor, Doug Ford voted to slash the Toronto Library budget by nearly 4 million dollars. And he infamously said that he would close libraries in his own community: “absolutely, in a heartbeat”. #onpoli#topoli
Andrew: What does the minister have to say to the people in Southwest or rural Ontario, or remote First Nations communities in the North, who will no longer have access to the books and services they’ve come to rely on? #onpoli#FNpoli#NorthernOntario

A timeline of Merrilee Fullerton, Doug Ford’s Minister of Long-Term Care, downplaying how many seniors are getting sick and dying in long-term care, playing a callous numbers game to avoid having to spend money to hire staff and implement infection control measures. 1/6
On Sept. 22, there were 58 resident cases:
“Ninety-nine per cent of our long-term-care homes have no resident cases.” - Merrilee Fullerton 2/6 hansardindex.ontla.on.ca/hansardespeake…

Premier Doug Ford and Health Minister Christine Elliott lied when they said their decision to cancel many public health protections was based on expert advice.
A TIMELINE OF LIES brought to you by Doug Ford's Conservative government:
Doug Ford, Nov. 3: “This framework was developed in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer of Health, the Public Health Measures Table, local medical officers of health, and other health system experts.” #FordLied#Covid19#Covid19Ontario
FACT CHECK TIMELINE: As Ontario reaches yet another record high number of new #COVID19 cases, Doug Ford needs to explain why he and his govt have been minimizing the impact of COVID’s second wave on Ontario families, and cutting back on public health measures...

October 6 — 548 new COVID-19 cases reported in Ontario.
Today, the courts ruled against Doug Ford’s cut to OHIP coverage for Ontarians when they’re travelling.
This makes SEVEN court battles lost by Doug Ford and his PC govt, wasting precious public dollars defending his cutting agenda. #onpoli
There’s a lot to unpack here, first of all, the ‘free market’ would not have the business opportunity to operate COVID-19 tests at a high price if the gov’t was on top of testing – but they’re leaving people behind.
Everyday Ontarians are waiting hours in line to get their COVID-19 test. While the gov’t has been saying for months that “they’re hammering away at testing” but experts disagree: ontariondp.ca/news/fact-chec…
If testing was as easy and accessible as it should be with a public health system, there would not be a market for $400 testing kits for those that can afford it. Demand the gov’t invest in testing now: ontariondp.ca/demand-covid-1…
