Once upon a time...
when I was a child growing up in Malibu, residents were allowed to walk into the Getty Villa on foot, without an appointment or a ticket.
@GettyMuseum I spent countless hours at the Getty Villa and surrounding gardens as a child and young adult, it was my sanctuary, always there waiting for me, enveloping me with peace.
@GettyMuseum My love for the Getty Villa is as deep as is my knowledge of the art and artifacts it contained.

I don’t want to frighten my fellow silence breakers but considering what I’ve been subjected to since speaking out about Roman Polanski sexually assaulting me as a child I feel it’s vital to remind you that your mobile phone and other devices like an iPad are tracking devices.
My advice to you is to get a hard line installed and cease using a mobile phone. If you decide to carry/use a mobile then always keep the location off, keep it in airplane mode and in a Faraday bag when not in use.
Also, be mindful that you are able to be geolocated via apps.
Roman Polanski’s attorney, Harland Braun, told the press that he hired PI’s to look into me, he hired Black Cube.
They tormented me, my four children, my younger brother who is a USMC veteran and my husband who I’ve been separated from for four years.

Samantha Geimer has had to deal w being Roman Polanski’s only publicly know victim since she was 13.
The press abused her and her mother, I read it in the Los Angeles Times, heard the terrible things said about them from the mouths of adults in Malibu, they all sided w Polanski.
In 1977 Roman Polanski was not only given special treatment by the court, allowed to go work on a film, he was celebrated in the press while Sam and her mother were reviled. This is the culture that I lived in when being repeatedly sexually assaulted in as a child.
We can do better.

When a child says someone has hurt them, they are bravely asking for help.
Believe them.

When an adult survivor of child sexual assault speaks out after decades of living in shame and silence, often with PTSD, believe them.

Respond with kindness & love.

So I saw ONCE UPON A TIME...IN HOLLYWOOD and it fucked me up on levels I was not aware that I had, and I am really struggling and emotional in my response to it. I don't normally write about myself when writing about movies. BUT. (MILDEST OF SPOILERS TO COME)
For the last two years I've been grappling with and mostly losing out to an overwhelming despair at my feelings of uselessness, and how time and talent I've squandered by doing nothing. I feel like I have one thing I do well (writing), and have really done nothing with it.
And from that has sprung an overwhelming need to feel useful, to feel my being here isn't just an accretion of days that blur together, but it's worth something. To hope that with the one limited skill I have, I can do something meaningful with it, and matter.

Once Upon a Time,

I was Somebody.

I was a grassroots organizer and an aspiring writer.

But...

A relentless eating disorder, severe depression, a sexual assault, a broken heart...these things drove my passion from me entirely.
No segue here.  I have a lot to get to and at the end of the day, who really cares how I became some anonymous loser with a cartoon avi?

As the years passed I kept writing...but my sorrow remained an ever present stain over my world perspective.
I became a Frankensteinian juxtiposition... irritatingly cynical, willfully nialistic, indomitably curious, paradoxically religious and deeply apathetic.

And I fled as thousands of lonely people do, to The Internet.  But I rarely talked to people there.

Okay. Here's why, and here -- once I'm done grumbling -- is why it's good.

/2 The notion is this: courts properly avoid answering Big Questions unless it is absolutely necessary to do so. That limits judicial power. The more judges can resolve issues gratuitously, the more power they have.
/3 This idea is inherent in the concepts of limited government and checks and balances, which I am reliably informed were once upon a time a thing.

The core idea shows up in may doctrines: jurisdiction, standing, ripeness & mootness, and so forth.
