Soooo... it was a tad long, but I liked it a lot. And the “you will need tissues” refrain proved true.

There was also a lot of subtle social justice commentary that I appreciated. Really well done.

Also: shout-out to the gentleman who spent the first half of the movie doing random, loud commentary that no one invited and the second half of the movie loudly snoring. Forreal.
There are folks who can do loud commentary at movies in public because they’re funny enough to get away with it. If you have to ask yourself if you fit that description, shut your damn mouth.

Austin Tice is a U.S. Marine veteran who grew up dreaming of being a journalist. While in law school at Georgetown in 2012, he heard disturbing reports coming out of Syria with little confirmation on the ground. He thought it was a story the world needed to know. So, he went.
Over the summer of 2012, Tice filed stories on the ground in Syria for @McClatchyDC, @washingtonpost, @CBSNews and other outlets. He was part of the McClatchy team that won a @PolkAwards for their reporting on the Syrian civil war.

Good thread here. When the NYT story popped two years ago, some friends and I speculated that there might be an effort to slowly "leak" info on UFOs through credible outlets to acclimate the public over time. We then laughed because we know how that sounds. And... well... 👇
I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but the number of stories that have come out about UFOs in traditional national newspapers over the last two years is absurd.
They're gonna ask for our leader, and we're gonna be like:

"So, this is Oprah..."

First of all, we need to bear in mind that this technology, like most facial recognition technologies, is predicated upon a history of institutionalized sexism and racism in image processing. From the use of the image Lena, “the First Lady of the internet...”
To the failure of image processing and machine vision to be tested adequately on people of color. Interestingly enough, this coincides with Hollywood’s inability to properly light black and brown bodies, because they’re on the same family tree of technologies.

1/ So, this is a thread on the Gilets Jaunes (GJs). I see a lot of confusion out there re: the protests, as well as a tendency among some to view the movement through a biased lens, such that, for example, if you dislike Macron you may be approving of the movement & vice versa.
2/ 1st, some caveats:

Caveat #1: I know more about France than most people, but I do not know more than all people. I am open to correction & new information. . . .
3/

Caveat #2: A lot of the info we have on the protests is scattershot at this point. I will talk about the evidence we currently have, but am open to the possibility it could be flawed.
