Yes, it must be a struggle. 
Also, it’s a bit rich of parents who send their children to private schools to accuse Oxbridge of “social engineering” when they *literally* pay for social engineering via their kids’ education, so they’re educated with other kids who are, you know, rich.
Parents buy their kids a better education and life chances over children who have no means to pay for the same: “perfectly just, don’t see a problem with it.”
