BREAKING: President Trump has posted an 18-hole golf score to @USGA Golf Handicap Information Network for first time this season - a 68(!) on a course with a 75.3 rating/139 slope.
This might be the best round of golf by a head of state since Kim Jong Il’s 38-under par performance (with five aces!) at Pyongyang Golf Course.
When you consider that the President’s last posted score, a 96 in October of last year, had a differential of 25.0 over the course rating, this 68 - a -5.9 differential against the rating - is even more incredible.
It's important to note that the 96 back in October came on a course with a rating of 68.8 - in other words, someplace not particularly tough.
Should have done this earlier. @DVNJr wrote a great book about the history of golf as played by US Presidents. He might have some interesting thoughts on this.
Here's a piece from @SInow's @Dan_Gartland about @realDonaldTrump's 68 - thanks for the credit, Dan! si.com/golf/2019/05/1…

@GolfDigest's @JoelMBeall notes, "if a score is inputted into GHIN, it's supposed to be real, so congrats to Trump on his banner round." Thanks for crediting me, Joel! golfdigest.com/story/presiden…
@GolfChannel's Jason Crook cited my Instagram post and notes, "Anything is possible." golfchannel.com/news/donald-tr…
Golf. Com's Kevin Cunningham with a mention in this piece. He says, "GOLF emailed Eric Trump, who runs his father’s golf operations, to confirm that the president posted the score. As of this writing, Eric Trump had not responded." golf.com/news/2019/05/1…
I'd like to note that @realDonaldTrump may not have shot his 68 on April 19 - 4/19 in GHIN means it was shot during April of 2019.
Also, @CillizzaCNN wrote a piece that published at 2:47 p.m. today for @CNN. He did not credit me, though he was tipped to my tweets by my @MC_Law classmate @HewittT01 three hours earlier.
I'm not usually one to get overly mad about things like this, but for us local sportswriters, things aren't good right now. I work at a private golf club lugging bags because there aren't many jobs in local journalism for guys and gals like me right now.
The 500,000 twitter impressions I got today were fantastic, but guess what? Twitter impressions don't pay for my son's daycare or preschool tuition. So when @CillizzaCNN can't be bothered to credit me, I think it's ok for me to be a bit mad.
And if anyone who reads this is an editor and interested in hiring me for freelance, part-time, or full-time work, email me. Let's talk. I'll bust my ass for you.
Shout out to @CillizzaCNN and his editors @leighmunsil and @kyletblaine. Anyone want to admit that I should have gotten credit here? Cc: @richarddeitsch
As @ceisenband was first to note (see how I did that, @CillizzaCNN?) there were four scores over 100 posted to @realDonaldTrump’s GHIN number after the “68”
I suspect he actually posted the 68, as it’s pretty obvious that a vain, narcissistic individual who holds himself out as a near-scratch golfer would post such a score.
Obviously, the likelihood of him actually firing a 68 on a 75/139 rated course are less than one percent. But if you look at the course and slope ratings for the four 100+ scores, they were on fantastically easy tracks.
My guess is that someone went to the handicapping computer at a club where he’s a member and added four 100+ scores on the most forward tees to try and make his index go higher.
But I do think he posted the “68” himself.
That The @usga has supplicated itself before Trump was well known, @StevePoliti wrote a good piece on it nearly two years ago off the Media Day for the US Women’s Open at Trump Bedminster. (@CillizzaCNN, see how I credited Steve?) nj.com/sports/2017/05…
Aside from Trump National, @realDonaldTrump is also a member at Winged Foot Golf Club, host of next year’s US Open. WFGC holds itself out as a protector of the game’s tradition, integrity, and legacy.
There are several @MGA1897 and @USGA officials who are members there. WFGC’s handicappping committee should have something to say about this. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I’ll be checking GHIN.
Golf is a game based on honor. The rules are self-enforced. The sport’s governing body, the @USGA, and a place like WFGC, which holds itself out as a pretext or of the game’s traditions and history...
Shouldn’t let him sully the game this way.
