Never seen a web archive before? Let's take a quick look at an archived version of loc.gov. -AG
This calendar view shows all of the dates we’ve archived of this URL – each blue bubble on the calendar represents an archived "snapshot." Navigate the years by scrolling the bar above. - AG

Bigger bubbles = more content archived!
Pick a date from the calendar, like this one from 2000 and click around to see what was archived. Screenshot of an archived capture of the Library of Congress homepage from May 2000.
#webarchiving attempts to preserve as much content at a URL as we can -- aiming to replicate look & feel at the time we capture + document changes over time by capturing a site multiple times. How often we capture depends on type of site & how often we suspect changes occur -AG
You may find some things missing in very early captures. Our staff started doing quality review on our web archives when we noticed critical elements – like images & stylesheets - were missing using the early crawling tools and approaches. -AG
To this day, we try to do review of as much content in the archives as we can, though that task can be daunting given the amount we collect! -AG
Note that I use the term "site" above loosely – websites are not easily defined. I talked about this many years ago in this post: “Archiving the ‘Intellectual’ Components of a Website"
