trying to figure out how to phrase this thing i think about constantly but

it really fucking sucks that liquor companies advertise extremely heavily, and yes particularly at pride. they know queer people drink a ton, and leveraging that is so fucking gross
you know what it feels like? it feels like if you're hanging out with a friend and you say "ugh my life sucks" and your friend says "ugh your life does suck" and then some rando steps up and says "ugh your life does suck"
everyone knows booze is poison. everyone knows we're hurting ourselves. some of us know why, others don't, others don't do it and that's great for them (really) but the fact remains that yes we drink a lot, and we drink a lot at our queer parties, and that's our business
i don't have a deep stake in pride and it's low hanging fruit to even comment on it but this is the thing that sticks in my craw more than anything else, it's the booze companies. it's that these events are absolutely stuffed to the brim with targeted liquor ads
as i said the other day, i went to one of these and managed to walk out with a shirt that might as well have read GET SO FUCKED UP ON SPICED RUM IN AN ATTEMPT TO FEEL ALIVE AND LIKE YOU HAVE AGENCY OVER YOUR ENVIRONMENT FOR ONCE THAT YOU PASS OUT AND MAYBE DIE LIKE HENDRIX
capitalone and mobil and fashion brands and idfk what else showing up with ads is one thing but IMO booze is the biggest thing you see, because it's tucked in everywhere. people walk past the capitalone booth to get to the bar behind it.
and it's the most invasive, the most personal thing. capitalone i can ignore. i have one credit card, it's through my bank, it's maxed, and capitalone is something i've been ignoring all my life. but i am going to go buy drinks and I don't need that fucking bruise pushed on.
that's pretty much it. we should be more upset about the liquor ads than almost everything else. we're going to keep going to whatever queer parties we can and most of us are going to get trashed at them and we shouldn't have to be fucking reminded before during or after
glamourizing it is revolting. it doesn't matter if we do it ourselves too. that's our problem. that's our business. we know what we're doing, or we don't and it's our business to be fucking ourselves up.
but telling a big demographic of sad alcoholics that drinking makes your identity stronger is fucking amoral
