Like I've been saying, there's going to be 20 streaming platforms, all intent on keeping their content exclusively behind 20 different walled silos.

Then they're all going to act dumb when piracy rates soar again.
I mean the idea of offering your content exclusively on your own streaming platform to draw subscriptions makes sense superficially, but consumers can't afford 20 different services.

They're going to get frustrated and just pirate.
And when piracy rates spike because they've made accessing everybody's favorite content too complicated and expensive, they're going to blame everything but their own behavior for it.
And yeah, consumers can sign up for one service then cancel another, but this being the entertainment industry, you can bet they'll start making it harder and harder to cancel in a bid to deter that from happening.
And that's before you get to #netneutrality's impact.

If you're getting a discount on your AT&T wireless or broadband bill for using DirecTV Now, you're less likely to cancel AT&T's services. That's where owning the network starts to come in handy.

And say AT&T uses dirty tricks to disincentivize you from cancelling its streaming service, or CBS All Access begins engaging in sleazy behavior that makes it hard to cancel (even try cancelling a WSJ digital sub online?), who's gonna rein in bad behavior, Ajit Pai?
I mean this will still definitely be a step up from paying Comcast $150 a month for a pile of shitty channels you never watch, but there's going to be some growing pains here over the next 5-10 years for sure.
