There‘s been an image circulating this week of the drowned bodies of Óscar Alberto Martínez Ramírez and his 23 month-old daughter Valeria. Instead, I ask you to look at this: the same happy family celebrating their daughter’s first birthday with Minnie Mouse decorations. 
This could be any one of our families. These are the types of people we’re detaining at the border.
Óscar and his daughter were trying to escape violence in El Salvador to achieve the American dream. We have to ask ourselves if our country is worthy of them.
