In case you need reminding, Strom Thurmond switched to the Republican Party in September 1964 -- a couple months after he voted against the Civil Rights Act and the GOP nominated Barry Goldwater, who also voted against the Civil Rights Act, as its presidential nominee.
This thread on the two parties stances on civil rights in 1964 offers the immediate context for Thurmond's switch.
Hard to believe that a self-proclaimed historian -- one who plays so fast and loose with evidence that his publisher actually had to recall one of his books because it was so filled with lies and mistakes -- somehow misread all that history. csmonitor.com/Books/chapter-…

Remember, the Secretary of Labor who's currently under fire for cutting a deal with an alleged pedophile and serial rapist is only the Secretary of Labor because Trump's *original* nominee for Secretary of Labor had to withdraw over allegations that he had abused his ex-wife.
Also, remember that the 2016 RNC Finance Chairman who's been accused of multiple counts of rape is different from the 2016 RNC Deputy Finance Chairman who paid for a Playmate's abortion and different from the *other* 2016 RNC Deputy Finance Chairman who is now in prison.
Also, the state chairman of Trump's 2016 campaign in Kentucky who later pleaded guilty to child sex trafficking is different from the state chairman of Trump's 2016 campaign in Oklahoma who also later pleaded guilty to child sex trafficking.

MESSAGE FOR FOLKS WHO FLUNKED US HISTORY IN HIGH SCHOOL:

"White liberals" didn't do any of this.
See, when other people do this con, they know to single out stuff white southern conservatives did back when they were Democrats, and to identify the perpetrators as Democrats, but only to *imply* that today's liberal Democrats are the same as yesterday's conservative Democrats.
Because when you claim that the KKK -- a white supremacist organization dedicated to Christian nationalism which attacked racial & religious minorities, immigrants and labor activists and had a motto of "America First" -- was run by "white liberals," you just sound like an idiot.

1. The century started on January, 1, 2001, so the GOP has won one of thee Electoral College votes.
2. There is no popular vote, except by journalists.
3. The GOP has put 2 of 9 justices on the Supreme Court this century.
4. The GOP passed & ratified the:
- 13A ending slavery
- 14A granting citizenship to former slaves and granting equal protection of all
- 15A ensuring all citizens have voting rights
- 19A ensuring female voting rights
5. The GOP passed the 1964 Civil Rights Act
6. The GOP passed the 1964 Voting Rights Act.
7. The GOP won 23 of 39 (59%) to the 16 (41%) Democratic wins since 1860.
8. Of 70 justices appointed to the Supreme Court, 44 (63%) were appointed by Republican Presidents and 26 (37%) by Democratic Presidents

In 1997, Mitch McConnell paid tribute to Sen. Strom Thurmond.

McConnell recalled fondly how his father and grandfather called Thurmond "a fine man" and both voted for his 1948 presidential campaign.

At the time, Thurmond was running on a platform of racial segregation.
McConnell went on to describe Thurmond's switch to the Republican Party - which was largely over Thurmond's opposition to civil rights.

"Imagine my excitement as a 22-year-old college senior to see Sen Thurmond... saying, I'm going to be a Republican as a matter of conviction."

2⃣ Aside from Revenue(tax) bills, bills can originate either in the House, the Senate or both simultaneously. When the bill has been polished it goes to a vote. There are two primary types of vote & one that is considered a countermeasure. #Senate ⬇️
