Thread: I promised to cover the rest of the hardware as well. Well, here is Part 2 of my #C64 #hardware.

Part 1 can be found here:

#C64hardware 1/
Lets start with the EasyFlash. It is modern hardware designed by skoe.
skoe.de/easyflash/doku…
It has 1MiB of FLASH and you can upload CRT images with software to it using an SD2IEC or even a 1541 when you split the data.

#C64hardware 2/
It comes with software to create CRT bundles of software and create a menu to select the PRG you want. I have a SID collection on it...

#C64hardware 3/
Next comes the successor of the EF: The EF3. The EF3 can do everything the EF can, but it can also act as a kernal switcher and it is able to run freezer cart software like ActionReplay or the FinalCart. Images can be uploaded via USB!

#C64hardware 4/
It doesn't stop there. You can even use the EF3 to upload PRGs to your #C64 via USB or write D64 images to floppy directly through USB and your C64...

Talking about freezers: There were (are) two very popular multi purpose carts: The ActionReplay and the FinalCart. Lets start withe the AR and its clones. They contained a fast loader, some utilities, a monitor including a (dis)assembler and the freeze function

#C64hardware 6/
The AR fast loader is SD2IEC compatible, but much slower that e.g. EXOSv3. The utilities contained tools for directory listing, formating/copying discs, but the most important function was the freezer.

#C64hardware 7/
by pressing a button on the module you could freeze a running PRG/game and save it to disc as a compressed image. This image could be loaded later and would continue execution right where is was frozen. This was marketed as a savegame feature but was heavily...

#C64hardware 8/
...used for working around copy protection. The freezer also enabled you to e.g. save screenshots, take hardcopies or dump sprite data.

If you want to know more take a look at this page:

Or the manual of the AR6 here:

#C64hardware 10/
The NordicReplay is a modern remake of the AR still available at icomp:
icomp.de/shop-icomp/en/…

#C64hardware 11/
As mentioned above the FinalCartridge was a similar system. FC1 AFAIK not so common, but FC3 more so...

#C64hardware 12/
The FC3 came with this weird, joystick controlled GUI desktop. Beside that the functions were similar to the AR and its clones. The FC3 fast loader works with the SD2IEC as well...

#C64hardware 13/
There were other modules with similar functions, but AFAIK the AR and the FC are the most complete. Lets see how far we get in this bunch...
