I obviously have no particular insight into the case of Dr. Wen, but my general observation of covering other organizations is that firing a chief executive after 9 months is often a symptom of much deeper organizational dysfunction.
Not always--sometimes you just make a tragic mistake, sometimes there's an intervening scandal no one on the board could have foreseen. But often. If the direction your CEO takes the organization really comes as an unhappy surprise, something went deeply wrong well before that.
And if you're firing your CEO because of adverse external events over which CEO had little control, then the board is not good at its job.
