One more hot take: anyone who thinks that previous immigrants were somehow different from current ones because they were too grateful to be here to ever criticize America is not looking at actual history, but parroting the one Hollywood made up for propaganda purposes during WWII
Many immigrants really did say those things. Others had a c more complicated relationship to their adoptive country. Indeed, many didn't even want to be here, but for economic reasons spent their lives grousing about America, and died on what they still considered foreign soil.
This is part of the great, complicated fabric that is American history, and American culture. People are complicated.
