If Dodo birds had tasted better, would they have gone extinct? When the first sailors were so hungry and yet still could not get themselves to eat Dodo, because of how vile that was, what if instead that tasted very nice? Certainly they would have been hunted more, but would they
have been more carefully managed and bred to ensure a good constant supply, and even had farms and breeding moved off island? it is possible that would have saved them. Instead, not even the hungriest wanted them, and pigs were imported instead. It is most likely from excavations
done at the site that the imported pigs wiped out the useless Dodo birds who were a novelty, but were also a bit of a nuisance. So, if they had been useful and not a horrible tasting nuisance, who knows maybe things would have worked out differently.
