Yesterday, thanks to the #ZAO app I created a video with my face on Sheldon Cooper. This morning, I deleted the video in the app (no more available in « My Creation » tab)

Guess what? #ZAO is not deleting your video. The video is still available online: zao.momocdn.com/zaovideo/BA/03…

It’s time for a thread about #ZAO, the new Chinese app which blew up since Friday. The app is accessible only to Chinese people for the moment but I managed to get an account ;)

This "AI facial" app allows you to add your face on predefined clip.

Let’s start by the beginning, as far as I can see, #ZAO is NOT uploading your camera roll to their servers.

Yes, they upload the photo you use to create the deep fake to their server (which makes sense)

As said this morning and during the #FaceApp episode, for privacy reasons, don’t upload your face to a random app.

Yes, this is cool but once your face is uploaded you lose your rights on it. They can do whatever they want

I totally understand the value of the block function against someone offensive to you, I do it all the time. But I still don’t understand the « pro active block » 🤔

In case you haven't heard, #ZAO is a Chinese app which completely blew up since Friday. Best application of 'Deepfake'-style AI facial replacement I've ever seen.

Here's an example of me as DiCaprio (generated in under 8 secs from that one photo in the thumbnail) 🤯
It's already under a lot of fire for user privacy protection under their terms and conditions. So consider this my sacrifice to demonstrate so you don't have to give up your portrait identity rights 😅
It’s clear that #ZAO isn’t really going for "accuracy" per se, but rather a "subjective" good looking result. Similar to a beauty cam, it retains facial structure of the original actors, so the cherry picked results more or less always looks good and encourages users to share.

It did serve to reassure me that the weight I have laid on the Beatles' shoulders in my chapter on the 60s in #Dominion is one that they are more than capable of bearing - because only the Beatles could have borne the weight that #Yesterday obliges them to bear.

And the science video you mention has 10x more impressions, but it also have 26x more subscribers to its channel🤷‍♂️

It has nearly the same monthly views as the top science channel @SmarterEveryDay, despite having ... 31 times less subscribers.

How can "Matrix Wisdom" get nearly as many views as a channel that have 31 times more subscribers?

1/ it can make more videos as it doesn't care about facts
2/ it's recommended by the AI much, much more
