This is Tony Aiello. This picture of him was sent by his daughter Annette. Last week, pretrial incaceration killed him. He was 91 with congenital heart failure. His doctor told the court he desperately needed palliative care not jail. Judge denied release. Days later he died.
Raj Jayadev was in court last week to witness what happened when the court found out he died. Tony’s name was called. No answer. DA informed court he died. No mention bow & where. Next case called. “No moment of silence, no acknowledgement—just next body.”
The statement from his daughter Annette is searing & gut-wrenching. “Our family is devastated by his death & disillusioned by the judicial system. My fathers death doesn’t end the suffering. My father was killed by pretrial incarceration.”
For all wondering his charged: A) He was presumed innocent & maintained his innocence. B) He was 91 w/ extraordinary health conditions, could barely move & would have been in a hospital instead of jail. C) Does it still matter to you? D) If so, read: wired.com/story/telltale…
So much of this. Bloodlust for a 90 year old accused of - yes a serious violent crime - knowingly killed by the state thru pretrial detention instead of just sending him to the hospital. No one should be tortured like this.
