Doing a list of my 4 favorite Asian dishes in no particular order:

1. Niurou mian, or Taiwanese beef noodle soup. My family has a recipe that's been passed down through at least 7 generations that's the best version I've ever had by FAR.

2. Beef chow fun, which I really want to learn how to make some day but eat incessantly wherever I can find it.

3. Pad see ew (pad siew? phat si-io? I've seen like 15 different transcriptions of it and I don't know Thai at all). You might have noticed the theme of noodle dishes here lol

4. Baozi This is the sketchiest one, there's a dumpling I grew up eating that we always called baozi but was much closer to a version of xiaolongbao without the soup inside (same wrapping but just the meat on the inside)

I feel like I should clarify what I mean by “gender,” because that’s a word a lot of people use in different ways.

To me, gender = social expectations, rules, and norms assigned to a person on the basis of their sex.
I’m not suggesting we throw all the dresses and baseball gloves into a pile and burn them.

The dress isn’t gender. The idea that dresses and vaginas are intrinsically related? THAT is gender.

Society CREATED the association between dresses and women.

Gender is CONSTRUCTED.

Ok, ok. 1 Like = 1 interesting magic system / cost for casting magic. I don't guarantee that all of these will be original as this is pretty well-trodden territory, but they'll certainly be made up on the spot by me.
1. Spellcasting feeds on ambient heat. Magic users leave trails of frost, ice crystals glinting in their hair. Strongest wizards operate in equatorial regions - deserts, tropical rainforests home to key mage colleges.
2. Magic requires pain. Pain is the remorse of matter, magic the expression of this remorse. Mages practice self-flagellation, electrocution, ice baths in order to cast spells. More powerful effects possible in throes of agony. Mage duels quickly escalate as combatants are hurt.

1) There's a corrosive narcissism in the ways settlers claiming vague Indigenous heritage insist their family stories are sacrosanct and unquestionable, *especially* when no evidence/relationships support them. Such fetishizing entitlement to Indigeneity is colonial to the core.
2) So many people have these stories regardless of origin, although the settler stories are particularly dangerous. Here’s a thread about why we have to treat claims of essential truth about family history with caution, especially when there's no community to help test it.
3) I’m a Cherokee Nation citizen through my dad, and those lines are well documented well into the 1700s. But my mom’s paternal family, of which we know very little, has also claimed Indigenous heritage, but these stories don’t really hold up to scrutiny.
