Imagine the callousness, cruelty and selfishness required to dismiss the devastation of traumatic brain injuries 3 times in 6 minutes on national TV. It has never been clearer that not only does @CoachsCornerDC not care about players, he takes active delight in their demise. 1/
@CoachsCornerDC sportsnet.ca/videos/shows/r…

He starts by saying that Scott Sabourin “just got knocked out, that’s all” after what appears to be a serious concussion. Everyone knows (including Don) that a loss of consciousness is of course a big deal in the realm of brain injury. 2/
@CoachsCornerDC Then Cherry jokes about Maclean’s use of the word “extremities”, because apparently the concern over a player’s possible paralysis is funny. 3/
@CoachsCornerDC Then Cherry gushes again about KOs in an old-time boxing match...and then how could he resist...onto the bare-knuckle boxing. 4/
@CoachsCornerDC About the Palmieri scrap he says it’s an unwritten rule that you have to fight. In Cherry’s world players must continuously sacrifice their health at the altar of his sacred code. And then even in praising Palmieri he dismisses him saying “it wasn’t much of a fight”. 5/
@CoachsCornerDC Then onto the Clifford vs Ferland fight....Cherry excoriates an official for having the audacity to have considered stopping the violence. Because the linesman touching Ferland’s arm is the thing that’s going to hurt him in this exchange, not repeated blows to the head. 6/
@CoachsCornerDC Finally, Cherry, having spent the previous 5 minutes celebrating and downplaying the destruction of young men, throws to a clip of himself speaking about the sacrifice of CDN war veterans. 7/
@CoachsCornerDC Allowing this man to continue his destructive influence on the culture of hockey is irresponsible. @Sportsnet is letting it happen and @RonMacLeanHTH is complicit. Coach’s Corner has hurt enough young athletes. It needs to stop. 8/
@CoachsCornerDC @Sportsnet @RonMacLeanHTH Brain injuries hurt our athletes in the present and long into the future. They quite literally destroy lives. People die. The idea of throwing bodies at our national game for the sake of our entertainment is over. 9/9
@CoachsCornerDC @Sportsnet @RonMacLeanHTH And today, it just so happens that there is a powerful and tragic story about yet another life lost to brain injuries in hockey. Please read this story about Ryan Crowther by @mirtle in @TheAthletic. Story is eerily similar to James McEwan's in my book. theathletic.com/1348845/2019/1…
