95% of people posting to Medium would be better off buying a $5 domain and publishing the articles there. Use medium as a working platform if you like the editor!
Censorship issues aside, Medium will eventually go under and you will be sad that you lost that 2012 article you forgot you wrote. The company has burned $132M with no hope of profitability. Mirror your stuff to a place you control, or there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth
(When you mirror it, leave out the huge amounts of Javascript and tracking gunk and marvel at how fast text files can load on the internet of 2019)
If you have stuff you value on Medium, it's important that you recognize its actual business model: whatever subsidized psychological journey of self-discovery Ev Williams is on. The existence of the site hinges on Ev's ability to keep investors believing in his changing visions.
You may recognize this as the same business model WeWork was on, which is why I say back up your stuff while you can.
No need to take my word for it. "I'm not focused on profit" is what you say when you're used to getting a lot of free money
This is a nice history of Medium, written mostly in period quotes. See how many different investor stories you can count niemanlab.org/2019/03/the-lo…
