As multiple #TXLege politicians try to jump in front of the parade to take credit for the changing the law back in 2017, let's make sure we are honest about what ACTUALLY occurred with SB2065 in 2017.

Back in 2017's 85th Legislature, there were 3 bills filed in the Texas House with language similar to what was eventually passed. ALL 3 were DOA under then Speaker Straus' leadership. One died in his Homeland Security & Public Safety Committee, the other two died in Calendars 2/
If it wasn't for @MattRinaldiTX's tireless efforts working behind the scenes (& against House leadership), the legislation (added as an amendment to a Senate Bill) would not have passed.

As background, the law previously required a house of worship wanting to have armed security to hire outside security firms, or jump through a bunch of state licensing hoops to allow volunteers to organize (rules which also limited WHO could volunteer). 4/4
Also, when @MattRinaldiTX's original bill HB421 was filed, "the state's largest law enforcement organization" @CLEAT & the San Antonio Police Officer's Association @SAPOA_PRES sent representatives to lobby AGAINST it. Remember that when they tell you who in #TXLege to support.
