This is an insightful thread, and makes an incredibly important point here:
I will also observe that it is important to consider one’s “hospitality to strangers” in the context of who is actually paying for it. Pushing govt policies that take from other strangers by the sword to help those in need isn’t a Christian response

It must also be said: being concerned about the well being of strangers can also include a desire to discourage migration that would increase the probability of rape for the women and children who sojourn.

Open borders = unsafe journeys.

A TERRIBLE proposal. I'm grieved.

It should be called “How #UMC traditionalists from around the world demonstrated majority support for their Biblical view, and then had their mandate squandered by US progressives seizing both the narrative and the remains of the Church” 1/
Basic outline: pay the traditionalists to go away nicely, but set a plan in motion where most traditionalist congregations will be trapped in the system and unable to leave.

Prediction: most traditional-minded #UMC congregants will leave UMC entirely over this capitulation

Conferences would vote to disaffiliate by July ‘21, but local congregations would be required* to wait until that happened & then have up to three and a half years for the local church to do something other than what their conference did.

.@CLEAT's primary stated objections? If a Church's volunteer security team wore uniforms or some other badging (prohibited in final legislation), people might think they were law enforcement; they also worried that those same volunteers might illegally direct traffic. Seriously.
.@cleat rep said "when you put on a uniform, it tends to empower that person & you move from the element of coming up and saying would you mind doing this into the realm of you have to do this because I said you have to do this" - apparently a role reserved for "professionals"?
Seriously. You can't make this up.

As multiple #TXLege politicians try to jump in front of the parade to take credit for the changing the law back in 2017, let's make sure we are honest about what ACTUALLY occurred with SB2065 in 2017.

Back in 2017's 85th Legislature, there were 3 bills filed in the Texas House with language similar to what was eventually passed. ALL 3 were DOA under then Speaker Straus' leadership. One died in his Homeland Security & Public Safety Committee, the other two died in Calendars 2/
If it wasn't for @MattRinaldiTX's tireless efforts working behind the scenes (& against House leadership), the legislation (added as an amendment to a Senate Bill) would not have passed.
It is not an exaggeration to say his work in #TXLege literally saved lives. Thanks Matt!

While I cannot attest to the veracity of these reports, I think there are misconceptions here about climate-linked humanitarian crises. One of the effects of climate change is the increased frequency of extreme events such as droughts and floods. #Thread 1/10
So, just because there have been severe floods in certain parts of the country *does not* negate the occurrence of droughts in other parts. I think the term "localized" needs to be emphasized in this context because the impact of extreme weather events is seldom uniform. 2/10
Here is a very basic background of the rainy season over Somalia. During the Gu, the Somali Jet plays a key role in transporting moist air from an area of high pressure around south of Madagascar, past the Horn of Africa to India. The Jet dumps its moisture along the way. 3/10

A lot of times we appear to be in a rush to share our so called 'new year resolutions' in response to that of others. Little wonder why by the middle of the first month of the year, we realise we are back to our old ways. This is June. #Thread
While there is nothing wrong with sharing resolutions, what might be even more important would be a committment to ensuring that we actually 'do' what we set out to do.
This brings me to something I consider a trademark of the great; intense intentionality!The willpower to follow through on what you set out to do without being distracted by frivolities and the quest for fleeting validation.

Joshua was very much a rainbow baby 🌈 and we were so excited and over the moon when I finally made it into the second trimester. (Alex and I are both big rugby fans!)
I was working as a 1st year Registrar in A&E when I suddenly broke my waters at 24 weeks. I was transferred to Southampton @UHSFT who have a specialist level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. They were wonderful, and did everything they could to stop my labour over Father’s Day.

1) Tweets spotted of war hero vet, no legs, purple heart, koko labelling him a Nazi, he had a tattoo of a cross. Shazz & others replied to koko's tweet telling her he is NOT, it's his platoon tattoo, she IGNORED all replies, Shazz DM'd asking to remove them, she CROPPED the DM 😲
2) Koko ignored numerous replies & the DM, so shazz threw a FBR with the veteran tagging koko in asking her to remove him, this was retweeted 100@ of times, she again IGNORED it, then Shazz tweeted it onto her post about harassment, since this vet was being harassed badly.
