All those cables have to go back up through the wall, into the ceiling space, then down through that new hole ImageImageImageImage
Dressed for ceiling space work Image
Fiddly, but done ImageImageImageImage

First UTP crimp in years, but new toys to test with 😁 ImageImageImageImage
Ok, first piece of equipment has to be the UPS, right? In the bottom I assume 'cos it ain't light. Image
It's alive! Image
OK, so I'm thinking, CAT-6 patch panel at the top, then switch, then shelves for gear, then power distribution rail right above the UPS, yeah?
At any rate, I'm not finishing tonight! @ubnt Image
Just got old gear going for now to quell th cries from kids Image
Slowly punching in the patch panel Image
Ok, patch panel installed, new switch mounted ready for future config & NAS positioned. This is the end of phase one (existing equipment installed). Next phase will be setup of @ubnt equipment! Image
Some drilling, scope camera work, and cable pulling later (oh and about an hour mucking about with terminators) we have an access point in the kitchen ceiling. Hopefully it powers on no problems later on 😁 ImageImage
More things installed and powered on now. Hopefully I've done it right so I can configure the UniFi stuff up in parallel to the @AmpliFiHome network to avoid as much downtime as possible (and give me a relaxed timeframe for the job) Image
Oooo fancy, setup auto-found other connected devices Image
OK, how do I set it so the access points radios (5G/2G) share their SSID? It defaulted to separate SSIDs and I can't find where to change it.
OK nevermind, found it :)

For those asking, the network rack/closet I'm using is this one: amzn.to/2MTd35s

A little diagramming of downstairs networking layout to come including dual 1GbE backhaul & to desktop Image
Rack update, switched house over to the @ubnt UniFi network yesterday, @AmpliFiHome gear deactivated. Need to install more Wi-Fi APs next. Image
Ok, basement media room work today. Installing 8-port switch & InWall HD AP. ImageImageImage
2Gbps uplink.... very nice :) Image
InWall HD access point installed in basement media room ImageImage
Today I attempt the hardest part of this job so far: an in-ceiling cable run past all of this ducting to the other end of the house to put another nanoHD AP in. Trying to optimize for just the single trip. ImageImage
Well, that was a failure. There's literally no way to get to the other end, trusses & crap make a literal wall halfway down. Back to the drawing board 😒
Found a way through! ImageImageImageImage
Add that to the list of "things it's nice to know I can do but hope I don't have to do again"
Always nice to see that "PASS" after the cable run and punch down ImageImageImageImage
Oh what a feeling! That'll do for today. Next job will be extending a spare run from one of the bedrooms, down through the wall and into the garage ceiling. That'll become the 'hub' for camera runs, maybe. ImageImageImage
The @ubnt progress so far Image
@ubnt Most WiFi clients now reporting good-to-great signal, inc. those in & around the loft that were previously struggling. This dashboard really is nerd-vana. Image
Added a grommet to the top side of rack cable drop to finish @Nick_Craver Image
