Mini thread about entitlement and sexual orientations. This will be an aggressive thread from me because I see our bodies brought into these conversations a lot. #intersex
This entitlement of requiring people to sleep with you is absurd, honestly it's ridiculous.. past that even. I'm an intersex woman, I was born with a rare DSD/VSD/CCSD that led to me having clitoromegaly with some virilization as well as vaginal atresia. I'll explain next tweets.
Clitoromegaly means that my clitoris is quite larger then "average" for females.

Genitalia virilization means that within utero my body was exposed to more androgens then it should have and it effected my genitalia, meaning my vulva was atypical.

I firmly believe it's in the interest of intersex organisations to solely focus on intersex issues, and for trans organisations to solely focus on trans issues.
We are losing potential funding, our voices are being drowned out, it is time for a parting of the ways.
The single 1/
biggest 'concern' from trans ppl that I get thrown at me is this: whaddabout intersex trans ppl?
Well, what about them? Think it through, they'd be in clover. Those rare few would be represented by both types of organisations. Not rocket science. /end
#Intersex #IntersexAutonomy
If we want our own organisations, we're the wrong kind of intersex and can be ignored ...

Another thread so soon? This one's going to be about a classic argument, sex determination. There are five methods of sex determination and I'm going to go into depth on my arguments on why I state that sex is able to be determined in all cases. #intersex
As you know if you follow me, there are five factors in sex determination. I've briefly gone into this in other threads but this thread is dedicated entirely to dissecting this whole thing apart. You only need one, or two for 99.98% of people when they are born.
However we're going to talk about those who are "ambiguously sexed" like myself and that brings me to my next argument and point.

The five determination methods in question:
Karyotype, Presenting Genitalia, Gonads, Hormone Production, Internal Reproductive Structures.

Today we're going to talk about a rather despairing topic in terms of #intersex people. That is the unfortunate topic of self-diagnosing yourself as #intersex and using #intersex as a scapegoat to defend the concept of gender and being trans. This can be argued as #intersexphobia
Over the past week I created two short polls on both Twitter and another platform to ask detransitioners about how they treated "intersex." Unfortunately the two polls didn't spread as far as I'd like, so I got limited answers. It was done across the span of five days.
Here I will provide screenshots of both polls in question, then I will break down the math and explains what it means. I was also given some testimonies about the subject from people who used to identify as transgender, or in others detransitioners. I didn't factor myself in this

This will be a personal #intersex thread on the harm of what believing sex was a bimodal spectrum did to me personally as someone who's had a complicated journey and still is stuck in medical limbo as a result. The harm.. of well, this.

My opinions on this as an intersex woman.
Like many intersex people I didn't know I was intersex at first, I wasn't told anything. I was always shrugged off when I asked if I was different, or strange. Never told I was normal either, the question was always avoided and as puberty happened everything became more clear.
My parents took the advice of a trans person over medical providers, the fact intersex orgs didn't have resources or awareness back then didn't help. My parents believed me "not going through puberty" would allow me to figure myself out. No one understood what that'd do to me.

Identifying as #intersex doesn't mean you are intersex, there are intersex individuals who proudly identify as being intersex and good for them, they have every right to considering they were born with a congenital condition of sexual development which is what being intersex is.
Transgender does not mean you get a pass to claim yourself as intersex. You are not intersex because of being transgender, being transgender has nothing to do with being born with a VSC/DSD. We did not fight for decades just to be reduced to some sideshow circus attraction again.
Taking HRT and feeling "cramps" does not mean you have PMDS, it means you experience effects from cross-sex hormones. You are literally experimenting with your own body to alter it, it doesn't prove you are intersex or have a secret uterus. The odds of that are astronomically low

The #Intersex and #LGBTQ conflation is dangerous, not only does it spread information about fictitious conditions that don't exist, but it's also pushing #interphobia because our education about intersex genitalia and conditions are regressing to the 1970s standard again.
A large clitoris is not a penis, it is a clitoris that still functions off the Mullerian structures.

Hypospadias is not some half-vagina, half penis structure. It is what happens when the urethra doesn't form at the tip of the penis.
Micropenis is not a "pseudo-clitoris" it's a penis that developed small and will stay small through that individual's life. This does not make any male with this a lesser male. He still has Wolffian structures intact and the penis works as it should.

After the display of @KarissaScience and that awful presentation done that had to do with WPATH. I will say #intersex people are #notyourprop and this is #interphobia! Intersex has nothing to do with #LGBTQ unless one is TRANS, and that has NOTHING to do with being INTERSEX!
In slide 1 we have this lovely, dehumanizing vision. It implies that there are three variations being Wild type, Mutant type and Translocated type. Using CAIS and De La Chapelle syndrome to make their point. They also stress your chromosomes dictate your gender identity.
First off. Don't call women with CAIS "mutants" Don't call ANY OF US mutants, especially when you tell people not to other you with not just slurs but transman, transwoman.

Secondly I'll be linking the blog of an intersex woman with CAIS:…

A few months later we published a second report, this time foregrounding physician voices -- doctors who were terrified by the lack of regulation around these operations, despite the intersex community engaging an asking for it for decades:…

When Keith found himself without a place to call his own he quickly scrambled to find a new apartment, he didn't think he'd find one and if felt like the paper found him instead. Pulling from the bulletin board at the local coffee shop. He took it, looking over the information.
This sounded like a plausible temporary solution. He was tired of couch surfing from one friend to the other. His close friends' kindness would only last so long and he didn't want to over stay his welcome. Keith could only impose for so long.

hi, I’m an evolutionary biologist & an #intersex person! 👋🏾 sex is not binary in a TON of species, inc. vertebrates, mammals, & us. some ppl like me don’t make eggs or sperm. & intersex =/= disorder, just another biological way of being. sex variation in humans is substantial!
hey folks! I’m so happy to see so many of you who accept that sex variation isn’t binary (as we know bc science) & support #intersex ppl! 🌈💖❤️🧡💛💚💙💜 #IntersexAndSTEM #DiversityInSTEM #LGBTQIAinSTEM #SexIsNotBinary #SexualPolymorphism
there are some great points being made & questions being asked in the comments, as well as some inaccurate (& deeply troubling) ones - I’m gonna do my best to address a few of the most common ones! #SexualPolymorphism #intersex #evobio #IntersexInSTEM #DiversityInSTEM

Imagine if you were born neither male nor female!
Imagine if your daughter doesn’t have ovaries nor menstruates at puberty!
Imagine you got married only to find out your husband is infertile & attracted to men!
These are all true stories.
Let's talk about #Intersex

I know you weren't expecting such unusual questions but join me with an unbiased mind as we discuss this natural reality which has led us to dehumanize, discriminate and devalue humans who are just different from us, forcing them to hide in shame or commit suicide.
Now let me use more relatable differences you are familiar with. Imagine you were born with a special condition like Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Sickle Cell Anemia or a Congenital Heart Disorder? Will you be happy if people condemned, jailed or lynched you?

IJP is disappointed, but not surprised by the treatment of @caster800m and other Black and Brown intersex athletes. We release this statement in support of her and other athletes:
On behalf of the Intersex Justice Project, we are saddened and outraged by the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) which ruled that “DSD regulations are discriminatory but that, on the basis of the evidence submitted by the parties, such discrimination
is a necessary, reasonable and proportionate means of achieving the International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) aim of preserving the integrity of female athletics in the restricted events.”

Ok, so having had time to watch and reflect on the #callthemidwife episode featuring an #intersex character, here are my thoughts: (1/15)
Firstly this was really hard to watch. I cried as Lois was intimately examined in front of a host of strange men. This was a pretty accurate reflection of my experiences as a teen. (2/15)
I lost count of the number of times that numerous students were “coincidentally” present when I needed an intimate exam. (3/15)

Long #THREAD discussing questions:

💭 What is intersex?
💭Is ____ intersex?
Preface: everyone is different, this is of course one opinion. Also, while they are common themes among intersex people, medical trauma, non-consensual surgeries, or even a diagnosis are not requirements to ID as intersex, and we don't endorse gatekeeping.
What is or is not intersex is somewhat subjective. At its simplest, IDing as #intersex is about having experiences with your body's inherent sex differences, and if that word feels right to you.

As an intersex AND queer person: it takes deliberation to talk about #intersex issues in a way that does not risk inadvertently throwing LGBTQ+ people, esp trans people, under the bus. We have a responsibility to calculate every word, esp "biological"... #thread
btw yes, I AM of the opinion that "I" firmly belongs in the LGBT+ acronym. Intersex medicalization born from homophobia shows parallels: intersex ppl falling on a spectrum of sex face violence & erasure for the same reasons as ppl who fall along a spectrum of gender, sexuality.
As #intersex knowledge slowly becomes more and more mainstream, I become more and more cautious about the language we move toward and away from. We must be deliberate so as not to exacerbate common arguments against our LGB and trans peers.

Contrary to popular belief, there really are more than two genders. Many people with sex chromosome variations don't know they have it, or find out later in life. Some are born with ambiguous genitals, and some look like one gender or another but their chromosomes are different.
