LGR Tech Tales is back for 2020! And kicking things off is a retrospective on the infamous Y2K Bug, or Year 2000 Problem.



Twenty years ago this month, many folks expected we'd be enduring pure chaos. Instead, we were met with the mundane. What happened?

And yes I do happen to own a number of the Y2K collectibles and oddities shown in the video!

Including this truly awful September '98 tabloid. From the same publication responsible for 'Bat Boy' no less...
I'd also quite like to cover this Y2K card from the video on LGR Oddware!

Problem is... I haven't been able to find a PC incompatible with Y2K on the BIOS level, haha. Which kinda says something right there.
The computers in my collection that might benefit from the card aren't PCs and don't have ISA expansion slots. So if you know a specific model of PC model that *only* uses two-digit years in the BIOS, lemme know :)

Somehow I'd never considered using SLI antialiasing with older games on new(ish) hardware, so you can use the 2nd card for extra image quality instead of performance.

Here's Midtown Madness 2 running on my Windows XP build with dual 8800GTS cards. 1600x1200, 16xAF, and SLI 8xAA!
And this rig is more than quick enough to still run at 100+ FPS, so on a 100Hz CRT it looks incredible combined with the other improvements.

Feels like a fresh new game now, this was unthinkable to me back then.

Y'know that enjoyably retro Ingles sign that I show in my camera reviews?

It's just as enjoyably retro inside.
I hope it never changes. I know it will, buuuut I hope it doesn't. It's weirdly comfortable.
There's also something about how the ceiling is angled and the way the fluorescent lights are laid out that does it for me.

2. I literally don't care what's in the report. I don't care what he tweets tomorrow. I care what he crushes and ruins tomorrow, but since I am at this moment not able to execute my plan to solve this, all I want to hear on the news is, did we start the impeachment process or not
3. The only tweets I am interested in reading is original thoughts or statements from actual humans. I don't care about the new crime.

Mesela #Büyükçekmece'ye Fatih'ten ve Başakşehir'den gelen seçmenler söz konusu. Bu seçmenler arasında AKP'ye yakın isimler var.
3- Seçmen listelerinin askıya çıktığı 4 Ocak 2019 tarihinde Büyükçekmece seçmen listelerine Nurettin Ertemel, Hüseyin Sevim ve Kaan Şahin gibi isimler eklendi.

Bu isimler geçmişte Mevlüt Uysal'ın da yönetimin de yer aldığı Sıcak Yuva Vakfı'nın hala yönetiminde bulunan isimler!

When I was in high school, I took a highly coveted “Modern Western Civilizations” course. We all got to choose our own final essay topics from a list. I nabbed “Should Holocaust denial be taught in schools?”

“Modern Western Civilizations” was one of those rare courses in my high school that actively encouraged debate, as long as it was backed up by reason and research (a qualifier dearly lacking from the public forums of today, but to be fair, this was 1998).
The course was taught by Brian Tuddenham, who was hands down one of the sharpest and most encouraging teachers that Scarborough was ever lucky to call its own. He encouraged dissent and skepticism, but he demanded that it be anchored to a moral core (again, a non-2018 qualifier).
