In 1984 when 19 different word processors were reviewed in PC Magazine, they looked at “the right way to test—function by function.” This included bold/underline/center, search and replace, error beep (or not), and recovering from floppy disk errors. by 1988, reviewed word processors grew to 55. Windows Word was still DNE so this character mode. As commented, pro writers loved XyWrite. Students loved Volkswriter. Pros/Lawyers loved WordPerfect. Check out # writers on reviews. 30 pages of tables! Note editors choice badge.
My favorite was always "number of words in spelling dictionary". More huge table of features.
Another favorite was "Software Digest" reviews. Shocking but true, Software Digest was published by NSTL--National Software Testing Lab, Inc. They also did exhaustive reviews of software. 2/ Microsoft has a very long history in entering the markets in Asian countries, starting with Japan in earliest days of the company. I say “Asian” because technically a huge challenge was figuring out how to represent Asian languages/characters on computers. Let’s start there.
3/ If you think that seems weird, consider that there is even a current journal (ACM Transactions on Asian Language Information Processing). As early as the 40’s IBM was working to solve “Chinese typing”. This wonderful book chronicles typing in Chinese. mitpress.mit.edu/books/chinese-…

1/ 2010 was the start of a most interesting time of the PC (and me). Reflecting back at how the decade ending in a few hours began. From the outside it was an exciting time in the PC industry. Windows 7 had just launched. Things would seem to be off to a solid start. Calendar changeover 2009-2010
2/ Windows 7 resumed the odd-even "curse" of Windows releases. Phew. It was an amazing team effort and transformation. PC sales for 2009 were "anemic" growth (3% v historic > 10) BUT broke through 300 MILLION! Windows 7 for sale. Getty image.
3/ Conventional wisdom was Windows 7 was bringing PCs back and the forecasts for future growth based on this upgrade super-cycle were for PCs to break through 400M, then perhaps even 500M. It was so exciting for sales and marketing and the OEMs were going nuts. Worldwide computer use to top 2B.

Google’s Monopoly is Stifling Free Software by byuu link.medium.com/bK1xXpjvO2 // What google (and Microsoft and...) are doing is the best thing for PCs. The problem has always been each individual thinks they are wise enough to avoid malware, yet somehow it spreads anyway.
PS/ Given the world of fake news today, just saying "google's monopoly" isn't entirely accurate. They have less than 70% desktop share worldwide (and declining trend) which is below what has historically been considered monopoly market share in the US. Chrome at 68% worldwide in a chart.Chrome at 48% in the US in a chart.
PPS/ Potential misunderstanding on my part.

its really impressive that most American students know the images of the nazis burning books but not that most of those pictures were from them burning the trans history and medical advances (and recorded oral history since some time in the 1800s) and the lgb records
like the knowledge that trans people exist is systemically absent

this pondering largely brought to you by the trans person who told me they learned about trans people in sex ed and that enabled them to transition way early

those images are shared by the left and right as to why authoritarian censorship is wrong, and yet, it's a huge marker of the effects, both then and now

Ca peut faire sourir. Reste qu’au fond, la question est : quels critères visuels dans les SERPs impactent le CTR ? 2/10
Une multitude de tests indépendants ont été effectués depuis des années, avec des méthodes allant du très hasardeux au solide ! :D
Je laisserai chacun se forger son opinion.
