BE AWARE and SHARE San Diego: Go outside. Look up at the streetlights. See any with these three spidery looking legs dangling from the apparatus? How many do you see? Reply here with the zip code and a photo of one of them.
I’ll start. This one is on 30th Street in North Park situated to spy and surveil the playground of St Patrick catholic school kids and the North Park health clinic across the street who treats those with low income. And listen to their conversations. And see inside their windows.
BE AWARE San Diego.
GE owned processed data and sold to another entity.
GE won't say who it sold data to, but it made $1 billion.
GE won't say what buyer intends to do with data.
Police can spy on people without judicial oversight.
Here is the map (orange pegs) of where the retrofitted spy surveillance streetlights have been installed. The blue pegs are NON-spy lights. The areas with high density street lights correspond with the low income and minority neighborhoods.
This nefarious "trojan horse" technology was intended to and does subject communities of color to 24/7 surveillance. And those being watched and followed pay for it from their pockets instead of getting playgrounds and parks. ummahwide.com/san-diego-stre…
1. Qualcomm donated to Faulconer's Mayoral campaign.
2. Qualcomm and Faulconer hold a "quiet meeting."
3. Faulconer wins.
4. Qualcomm CEO's wife joins GE board of Directors.
5. City Attorney Mara Elliott discloses she owns GE stock.
6. Elliott signs contract 12/13/2016.
Let's rewind.
5. City Attorney Mara Elliott discloses she owns GE stock.
6. Elliott signs contract 12/13/2016
7. City Charter Section 94 makes it a misdemeanor and subject to immediate removal from office to negotiate a contract for city when own stock with contract beneficiary.
8. Six days after Mara Elliott signs contract in violation of City Charter Section 94, law is, conveniently for Mara Elliott, repealed.
9. Mara Elliott's job as City Attorney includes repealing laws.
10. Mara Elliott contracted to pay GE $30 million on behalf of the City.
11. After San Diego taxpayers pay $30 million to GE Current, this division is sold to AIP.
12. Terms of contract negotiated by Mara Elliott do not require GE to disclose what AIP intends to do with data. governing.com/news/headlines…
13. Mara Elliott, who is running for re-election, and her campaign manager deny these claims but without any proof or substantiation. Instead of addressing the substance of the arguments, they toss ad hominem attacks at her opponent and blame him for the controversy.
14. A year later, San Diego Police Department Chief Nisleit made a surprise announcement that he would use the data too. Chief Nisleit was hand-selected by Mayor Faulconer in a process in which the Mayor expressly refused to consider the input of communities of color.
15. Mara Elliott tried to distance herself from signing of the contract by blaming it on her predecessor, Jan Goldsmith and by falsely claiming she hadn't been present at council until January 17th. These arguments were refuted by Goldsmith and the public record.
16. "So-called Smart" Streetlight Contract gave third party vendor right to sell and profit from San Diegans data.
nbcsandiego.com/news/local/cri…
17. The surveillance capabilties were never mentioned when the contract was initially presented to City Council.
18. This was Mara Elliott's obligation of City Council to so advise council and the residents. timesofsandiego.com/opinion/2019/1…
Three of 9 council members have called for a Moratorium on the surveillance apparatus that disproportionately tracks their district's constituents until privacy concerns can be addressed. The Moratorium has not yet been granted. The data collection and processing continues.
San Diegans were tricked and led to believe that the Smart Streetlights were for energy and environmental purposes and not surveillance. Our City Attorney Mara Elliott and outgoing Mayor Faulconer personally benefited financially while San Diegans had their data sold to Big Tech.
Community groups are taking up the issue as we can no longer count on the City Attorney to represent the best interests of San Diego residents.
@CAIRSanDiego informs: "Over the last three years, the city of San Diego has built the United States' largest "smart city" platform. At the center of this platform are smart streetlights with video, audio, data collection, and artificial intelligence capabilities. . . . "
@CAIRSanDiego "...This platform was pitched as a sustainability project, with no mention of these surveillance tools when it was approved by San Diego city council. In this video, the TRUST San Diego coalition exposes the truths about this surveillance."@CAIRSanDiego
@CAIRSanDiego Here is the map (orange pegs) of where the retrofitted spy surveillance streetlights have been installed. The blue pegs are NON-spy lights. The areas with high density street lights correspond with the low income and minority neighborhoods.
@CAIRSanDiego AND, adding insult to injury, the City made these neighborhoods of color and economic disadvantage pay for these surveillance cameras in their neighborhoods out of community development funds intended for parks, playgrounds, pothole repair and community services.
@CAIRSanDiego This is what the technology looks like on the gaslamps erected in San Diego downtown. If you work, vacation or visit the gaslamp, your data could be collected, interpreted and sold for any purpose by Big Tech.
@CAIRSanDiego Right now police have 100% access to all this surveillance without a warrant or judicial review, with zero guidance by City Council, no public input and no oversight or accountability. Just trust Chief Nesliett. The one Mayor Faulconer handpicked after refusing community input.
@CAIRSanDiego When this article was written in September, 2019 and San Diego "only" had 3200 cameras, it was ranked FIFTH most surveilled city in America. Now San Diego has over 4200 cameras and as high as that appears, even that amount is been planned to double! sandiegouniontribune.com/news/watchdog/…
@CAIRSanDiego Here is what the surveillance looks like on the double-headed gaslamps, and for more tech details on the apparatus see this article: (thanks @Frances_Larina!) ledsmagazine.com/leds-ssl-desig…
Here are charts of San Diego showing areas of economic disadvantage and areas of high concentrations of minority populations. Compare these to the maps of the surveillance lights installed and planned for installation: ummahwide.com/san-diego-stre…
