In black households it never left. Was literally the first thing my dad bought me when I moved into my first place. I don’t know a black household with out a cast-iron skillet.
You fry in it, bake in it, stew in it, knock someone out with it if need be. It’s indestructible and cooks evenly and last a lifetime. Y’all can have all those newfangled pans. I’ve got a cast iron Dutch oven and three different sizes skillets and a cast-iron griddle pan.
When my grandfather died the one thing I wanted was his small cast iron skillet that he used to fry us pancakes in.
