FEDCO sets direction on fin and admin; corp goals; econ development; fiscal & management policy; auditing; overseeing Op and Cap Budgets; comms, pub engagement, client service; accessibility, HR, labour relations, bilingualism; IT legal services; procurement etc. 2/8
To underline its importance, frequently Transit Commission members incl @smwgilbert @Diaspora3LvW @TonyCarricato and #MichaelOlsen are barred from discussing issues related to LRT procurement and told these are solely in purview of FEDCO. 3/8
In short FEDCO is a critical Council Committee. It’s membership should reflect the entire city. Imagine if the committee didn’t include any rural or suburban members, women or francophones? Yet there are no urban core councillors on it. 4/8
FEDCO includes Standing Committee Chairs so when Transport Committee chair Stephen Blais recently stepped down from that role it would have been natural for Vice Chair @JLeiper to replace him and so also become the sole urban core member of FEDCO. 5/8
Instead Mayor Watson wants Councillor @TimTierney to become Transport Chair even tho he’s not on the Committee and is already the Vice Chair of FEDCO. He’ll be starting from zero on Transport Committee’s work while city is working on a new Transportation Master Plan. 6/8
Mayor @JimWatsonOttawa why wouldn’t you want an experienced knowledgeable Councillor to continue his proven leadership on Transport? Why isn’t FEDCO representative of all parts of the city? 7/8
