How are people only now discovering Mike Bloomberg was Mr. Stop&Frisk? He was defending S&F in January 2019. What he thinks does not matter, the courts declared it unconstitutional. I am pretty sure he is as racist as the average white person. We are, after all, racist AF.
This means he recognizes racism is a problem but identifies it mostly as assholes shouting epithets while ignoring systemic racism. This is marginally better than saying racism is a distraction and if we only made white people more economically secure they would be less racist.
I just think it is worse to actually acknowledge systemic racism and decide you really can't address it because it offends the voters you fetishize. Someone who does not perceive systemic racism can be educated. The other knows, and shrugs.
The everyday racist sees the results of over-policing and prosecutorial racism and concludes over-policing is necessary. This is an education problem. The person who understands this and does not prioritize it is worse in my book.
And of course, being white, my opinion is not the one that matters here. I will wait and see what people of color decide and take their lead because they are very familiar with Bernie's deprecation of identity politics & the real harm of Stop & Frisk.
