Well Eyjafjallajökull looks pretty stable, but since eruptions of Katla tend to follow eruptions of Eyjafjallajökull...unless our government want to endanger our citizens...this doesn't look like a great idea.

(Don't underestimate the negative trade effect of the last ash cloud)
There are countless other reasons why this is a bad idea, but Katla is the one that a trade person would know about and an economist like Tim Leunig probably wouldn't think twice about.
He can be super intelligent and really good with a slide rule, but unless his calculations have taken into account what happens if there is a massive disruption to air trade based on tectonic movements, let's not leave this to an algorithm?

@StevePeers @buj08 I agree, but her right to free speech isn't absolute. She is speaking at the discretion of the organisers and unless the law says otherwise, they shouldn't lose that discretion after an invitation.
@StevePeers @buj08 The 1986 protection is clearly about ensuring that someone who turns up to speak can speak, if they stripped the speaker status after someone arrived they might be in trouble (30 minutes is really not a good notice time)
@StevePeers @buj08 The 2018 university guidance does acknowledge that freedom of protest s free speech, and says it should not shut down debate, but the information suggests this wasn’t about the debate but the person.

You see, I agree with Jacob Rees-Mogg. I believe free speech is a bedrock of democracy. Which means I wholly support the deplatforming of Amber Rudd.

Sometimes I feel “who the hell am I to tell someone this”, and this is one of those times, because it looks like I’m going to have to explain free speech to @UniofOxford too.

@anandMenon1 Firstly, I know you’re not arguing this, but I’m just putting it out there before I explain it, practically everything can be substituted. The ability to substitute should not be a measure of if something is critical.

@anandMenon1 As far as I know, food margins are low, and so the farmers and fisherman have to rely basically on mass sales. This means there is a lot of effort and it doesn’t necessarily result in a big return to the wider economy.

There is a busy little private company you probably never have heard about, but which you should. Its name is the Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation.....
See their website. Looks pretty boring. Some kind of financial service thing, with a positive slogan and out there to make a little business....
Now, go and take a look at their annual report. Starts with a nice little Flash presentation and has a nice message from the CEO. And take a look at the numbers. It turns out that this company holds 23 trillion dollars in assets....

Just a reminder that the UK state redistributes massively from London and the South East redistributes to the rest of the UK

Here are the Budget positions of each region (red and black have the obvious meanings)
I think this chart is more interesting. It is regional redistribution over time -
- looks pretty stable.....

... but that is just the first glance
The way to read the chart above is the regional budget deficit/surplus difference to the national one

- so if a region rises (it's contributing more/receiving less)
- if a region is falling (it's getting more from central govt)
