V thoughtful post about the difficult choice the Supreme Ct has in trying to decide whether to go ahead with oral arguments next week

I'm a deep believer the Supreme Court should televise and provide immediate audio of its proceedings. But I recognize...

that at least some members of the Court are worried about either. I think if the Court did release immediate audio in this unique situation, it wouldn't and shouldn't set a precedent once things return to a more normal footing...
They should feel free to do what is appropriate here without fear that it will force their hand down the road in less extreme circumstances, and those of us like me who have views on this in ordinary times shouldn't use this decision, made under extreme circs, as a precedent.

1.This Wednesday, the Supreme Court will hear one of the most important abortion cases ever. I decided to record this track to draw attention to the case, and in particular to ways to protect reproductive justice without relying on the courts. open.spotify.com/album/6GU0BNye…
2.The Louisiana abortion case is a mirror image of one the Supreme Court heard 4 years ago from Texas. The laws are virtually identical, and require doctors performing abortions to have admitting privileges at a local hospital.
3.The Supreme Court struck down the Texas law 5-4 as burdening a woman’s right to choose. But Justice Kennedy cast the deciding vote, and he is no longer on the Court, and has been replaced by Justice Kavanaugh.

Impt move by @RepAdamSchiff. He said Chief Justice Roberts is empowered to decide witnesses +House Managers will abide by whatever CJ decides/won't try to appeal. Trump, by contrast,is afraid not only of witnesses&docs, but of CJ Roberts (a Bush appointee)

McConnell speech totally contradicts itself. It first claims the House “declined to hear from witnesses.” House of course never “declined”—they didn’t want to get bogged down in long court fight.

Then McConnell says witnesses shouldn’t be called in Senate. His reason? Omg ...
He says that would lead to a lengthy court fight and generate destructive precedent. This is precisely what he said should have happened in the House! Makes zero sense.

And he’s wrong about that too. Chief Justice can rule on exec priv claims quickly. No ct fight. Unlike House
McConnell argument thus boomerangs.

It demonstrates that he will do anything, and say anything, to try to prevent the American people from learning the truth.

It should be simple-If the President’s behavior was perfect&beautiful, why are they so afraid of documents+witnesses?

In August 1947, British rule over the Indian Subcontinent, that had lasted for more than three centuries, had come to an end. Two new dominions, the Union of India and the Dominion of Pakistan, legally came into existence at midnight on 14-15 August 1947.
Both nations were born in the bloodshed that came out of communal violence between the two main religious communities in India, the Hindus and the Muslims. Violence that had taken the lives of more than 2 million innocents and displaced more than 14 million.
To understand why there was violence in the first place, let’s go back a little. The two communities had an uneasy existence with each other for nearly 800 years. Though in many places Hindus and Muslims were almost inseparable, in some places there were hostilities.

This was my mother. She passed away officially on the 1/2/20 a day before her 55th birthday. HOWEVER. She actually ended up ‘sort of’ seeing her birthday, and here’s why: Image
Mother hadn’t previously told me that she’d registered as an organ donor, and it had never really crossed my mind. Nevertheless after her stroke last week, we were made aware and as next of kin, and asked to decide whether to go ahead with it before they removed life support.
Knowing that she’d gone out of her way to sign up, we immediately said yes. Nan was a bit confused (and I think still is) but we decided to go with mother’s wishes. So: the specialist nurses spoke to us in massive detail about her health history and what would happen.
