Earlier this week my campaign announced that we have qualified for the ballot in Virginia’s first congressional district. While we congratulate our campaign staff and volunteers for their commitment and dedication, we know that this journey has just begun.
These are dangerous times. Americans face an unprecedented public health threat that has shuttered our homes and schools and businesses. We pray for those infected and mourn for those already lost. Long before #COVID19 came to our shores America faced another invisible threat.
It is what I call the Great American Debt.

This guarantees that our children, and indeed their children, have lost any hope of economic mobility. Their chances of building lasting wealth in their lifetimes has been hijacked by a broken political system.
200 million Americans are $14T in debt in the form of student loans, mortgages, or car loans. It’s painfully obvious why Americans are underwater; the cost of living is too high, our interest too much, our wages too low. America needs a new economic paradigm #DebtRelief
And while some money will go to families and unemployment benefits and hospitals, the misallocation of the vast majority of the funds proves this package is bad for America.

I propose a different approach. Why not allocate the stimulus money to the people as debt relief?
Congress should apply it towards our consumer debt for three simple reasons:

1) Value. Americans would actually receive the entire amount if applied towards their debt as it would not be taxed.
2) Interest relief. Any amount applied towards debt increases its own value, so a cash payment is actually higher in value since the balance on which the interest is levied is reduced.
3) It would eliminate the need corporate bailouts. Wall Street would rally and the market strengthen since ultimately the money ends up with the banks and lending institutions holding the debt.
Once that’s done, Congress should take the $500B slush fund and, like Obama’s $447B American Jobs Act, apply it towards Infrastructure investment to boost the economy by creating a million new jobs. #economy #jobs #AmericaFirst
1) Hospitals and medical facilities. We must defeat #COVID
2) National High Speed Rail: Obama had it right.
3) Roads and Bridges: long overdue
4) Water and Sewage Infrastructure: no more Flint Michigan’s.
5) Job training
6) Unemployment benefits
Americans can move towards economic justice by acknowledging the existing cycle of inequality borne of corrupt taxation and corporate favoritism, then electing a new Congress committed to its realization. Giving the stimulus to the people in the form of debt relief is a start.

It has recently come to my attention that there are some disturbing voting trends developing in our area that need to be addressed. 1st, there are some in the AA community encouraging other people of color to write in “REPARATIONS” for president instead of @JoeBiden/@KamalaHarris
Simply put, this must stop. By not voting for @JoeBiden @KamalaHarris , you’re essentially voting for four more years of chaos, division and derision by the current administration.
2nd, I have been made aware that there are people voting for me by writing in my name for 1CD on their ballot. This too must stop. I have not asked for people to do this nor do I want this practice to continue. We must do everything we can to increase the size of the

This year was a humbling experience.

I have enjoyed this season working with our community and working to help us every day.

We have experienced many hardships that inspired my run for Congress, but none compare to this Pandemic.

(1/15)
My biggest concern was to do my best to help us find a safe path through this crisis. I put a focus on keeping my family safe while seeking resources for members of the community in need. I will not stop doing this because we all need the help and we can work together.

(2/15)
Everyone we were able to help, from a woman in need of her medication to an older couple in need of toilet paper. Whether your need is seemingly simple or very complex, I am here to find you help.

Attention Northumberland County! have been getting reports that there may be problems with curbside voting in the Democratic Primary. Cont.
While I have heard from the county that curbside voting is now available, there have been reports that paper ballots have previously not been available, requiring voters to go inside to use the touchscreens.
Cont.
If you are intending on voting in the Democratic Primary in Northumberland County, please make sure to bring masks and any other safety equipment you need for being in an indoor space.

Happy Father's Day, it was a long one.

Today was a wonderful day for Father's Day. It was also the longest day of the year thanks to the Summer Solstice.

#FathersDay
We had great weather here in the 1st District and I'm truly hoping all the dads enjoyed it. No matter how you became a father, you have a hard job, being a dad.

#Dad

Keep doing what you do and enjoy every day. We are living in a very different way this year, so relax with the extra time you have.

What I have to say is very important and I ask you to read this all the way through.

About half of our district is the Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula. This is where our aquaculture is and it is very strong.

This area makes its living from the hard labor of our Watermen. They need our support now more than ever. Our Watermen catch and raise marine life from rockfish to oysters. They are small businesses that keep the region going.

They keep many more small businesses thriving. Restaurants, local grocery stores, roadside stands and more sell the fresh catches they bring to us.

Union workers are our strongest workforce. They pull together to make sure our working class stay protected and not abused with ensuring safe working conditions, adequate pay scales, the fight for gender and racial equality and so much more.
