Very Good Korean study of #COVID19 cases in a call centre in Seoul.. Of the total of 97 positive cases via RT-PCR, 94 worked in the 11th floor call centre & most of the cases worked on the same side to reinforce droplet transmission.. 1/n
wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/26…
This #Korean study builds on its finding of positive #COVID19 individuals & followed up on them as PUI (Persons Under Investigation) + checking on Close Contacts for 14 days to evaluate:
1) symptomatic
2) pre-symptomatic
3) asymptomatic
with listed definitions below .. 2/n
Findings were as below..
Of the 97 cases, 94 worked on same 11th floor & majority sat on same side of the call centre.
Of the 97: 89 were symptomatic (91.7%), 4 pre-symptomatic (4.1%) & 4 asymptomatic (4.1%).. asymptomatic meaning did not show symptoms within 14 day period.. 3/n
Though it was a building with many floors & there was regular interaction with other workers in same building, cases were focussed on 11th floor, again hitting on the Sustained Droplet Transmission.. and NOT by a casual meeting, albeit within social distancing parameters.. 4/n
Looking at whether the positive cases were symptomatic, pre-symptomatic or asymptomatic (no symptoms during 14 day follow-up).. these are findings on the Close Contacts of PUI..
Out of total 225: 34 were positive cases and all were infected by symptomatic index patients.. 5/n
Out of 4 pre-symptomatic & 4 asymptomatic positive index cases.. None of their Close Contacts were infected, suggesting high degree of self quarantine & isolation for this cohort upon discovery of being positive would have helped curb transmission.. 6/n
Emphasis again is on Droplet Transmission within confined spaces + being direct flow of perhaps air conditioning like a China study on patients infected by a Wuhan family in a restaurant, where the 3 tables were in alignment with the air-conditioning unit. 7/n
