[Thread] 1/ This is my Welsh grandad Cyril Jones in Rome during WWII. He fought in North Africa & Italy in the 132 Welsh RA. He hated Tony Blair because of Iraq, thought all footballers should be paid the same, was a communist, & liked Motown. #VEDayAtHome 
2/ He was also a miner, a steelworker, and never visited a hospital after the war, and after his wife (my grandma) died in one following a long disease probably associated with some industrial disease. As kids he used to give my brothers and I cubes of jelly as a treat. He used
3/ to like gardening, Sudoku, and was particularly proud of his broadbeans. He was proud & socially minded, refusing to buy his council house when he had the chance. He smoked a lot but was glad I didn't. He told me about the war, but not my dad, & sold his medals.
4/ He died in 2013 after suffering a long time from Dementia. I remember towards the end he didn't recognise me. But once he suddenly started crying and said "oh it's you Marc I recognise you by your walk". Miss you so much grandad. [photo of my brothers & dad after his funeral]
