#ISIS West Africa published images of their fighters during Ramadam, seemingly on ribat, during attacks etc.

Unfortunately unsure what particular area they aare operating in. Rare to see in a qasi-urban area. Seems to be standard ISWA units, standard equipment. #Nigeria

Look to be the fighters near Lake Chad by their equipment- standardised chest rigs, AKM, PK/M etc. Shows the direct influence of IS-C in IS WA development.

Nigerian news is currently pushing the "total defeat on all fronts" narrative RE BH/IS, pics possibly designed to counter.

[THREAD] On the recent IS video from #Iraq titled "And strike (their) necks".

This video combines operations from all over the country in one large production, namely assasinations, IED/Rocket attacks, and armed assaults.

Much of the footage appears to be from 2019, and hence does not reflect the (Rather high) level of activity today, but is a pretty good portrait of IS operations in Iraq recently.

It shows that complex attacks (Multi stage IEDs, proactive ambushes, large groups) are within the capability of the group, and that efforts are underway to develop additional capabilities.

[THREAD] On a new HTS video about their "Thermal Sniping Companies", essentially specialist fighters tasked with the effective use of thermal optics.

This was already widespread in #Idlib, but the video is the first detail I have heard of a dedicated force.

It's unclear to me if the fighters are attached to other HTS squads or operate on their own. Regardless, they are very well equipped w/ AK-74/M, PK/M & RPG-7, with all fighters wearing helmets, tac vests etc.

For the camera, but operational fighters are rather similar.

As a demonstration, here's various social media of HTS Fighters (Mostly "Elite" units) carrying thermals. These aren't usually universal through the squad however.

Why open source images can be rather revealing to arms ID nerds:

South of #Kirkuk: ISIS targets "gatherings of Shiites" with a rather new mortar, rather similar to existing Yugo-derived designs.

Note that it isn't properly bedded in, meaning a "shoot and scoot" attack.

Here's the mortar bombs they launched, which are also absolutely brand new. These are 81mm M91 with AZ111A2 pattern fuzes, made by Iran. As Iranian materiel is so common locally, this is no surprise.

However, I do have a question- just how are IS sourcing Iranian ammo that's clearly marked to have been made in what appears to be 2018, 2019, or 2016?

Maybe from caches, from IS' time of territorial control?
