With an additional 6,088 cases in last 24 hours, #India's #CoronaVirus epidemic seems to be gaining in strength rather than weakening. The growth in last 28 days is a 5-fold increase, equiavlent to a CDGR - Compound daily growth rate of 5.9% per day. It is out of control.
India's epidemic is growing faster that most of the other countries with a large number of cases.
It is an average growth rate. It includes states that are doing extremely well - e.g. #Kerala, some that have very few cases, and some large States where it is growing briskly (#MAH and #GUJ).
Conclusion: India wasted it's early Lockdown.

Many commentators (see eg. @dravirmani @TheJaggi and @ShekharGupta) have argued for Labour Law reform in India, in the context of UP Govt action to scrap a raft of current laws. Many have cited the example of Bangladesh. Here is B'desh Labour Act 2006.

This is a comprehensive piece of legislation that reads like a Trade Unionist's wish list. Maternity rights, workers compensation, retirement benefits, health and safety at work, employment of minors.. its all there. This is progressive legislation indeed. I commend it.
In his Youtube commentary, @ShekharGupta presents an old argument that laws preventing a business owener from firing staff and shitting down a factory with > 100 workers acts as a brake on expansion and scale necessary to become competitive. He did NOT give any other example.

The 1stis the Indian High Comm in the UK announcing a repatriation flight London to India. he sings paeans to the PM of India and tags the PM the Ext Affairs Minister.
The 2nd is the UK HC in India Jan Thompson, just doing her job.
Here is @JanThompsonFCO quietly and clearly announcing more flights out of India for stranded Brits.
Praise for Indian authorities, thanks all who made it happen, no sycophancy to British Govt Ministers; they after all just did their job. That's diplomacy
Neither Govt's actions were a rescue or mercy mission. In both cases stranded passengers paid their way - INR50k for Indians, GBP560 for the Brits in India. Only in the one case the ambassador couldn't resist tagging his political masters.

That theory is being tested in #Modi's #India. And so far found wanting
A willingly controlled and spontaneously sycophantic media refuses to hold the Great Leader to account; such criticism as may be made by intellectuals and a remnant of the free press is silenced by the howls of mobs on social media. Free debate is replaced by adulatory paeans.
Respectful discussion of policy choices has been pushed aside by a Know-it-all leadership that adopts a We-Can-never-admit-to-any-failings style of governance that places false propaganda over real performance, empty spin over true substance.
