Below is an overview of the upcoming threads regarding my journey as an IMG in the NRMP #Match2020 & a list of useful resources to use ..

Thread no. 1/

#Match2021 #AskAnIMG
/n First I would like to thank the people who commented on my previous tweet & offered to help @Soa95s @Re_innervated @dr_paz @OscarJMitchell @KhushbooGala2. I love the energy & appreciate the willingness to pitch in. #MedTwitter
/n Going through the match season has been one of the most exciting experiences I’ve had since I began my journey in medicine & that has been the case because I tried to approach the whole process in a strategic manner allowing me to get the most out of this endeavor #Match2021
/n Below you’ll find a list of resources I had used to keep myself informed throughout the season, you'll also find an overview of the subjects I’ll be addressing in the coming threads #Match2021 #AskAnIMG
/n #Facebook was a main resource for me to keep up with all the news and recommendations regarding the match process. Attached is a link to one of the most active groups for IMGs embarking on the journey bit.ly/2XKTPVD #Match2021
/n Do ask questions, keep an open mind & engage in answering other people’s inquiries on this group. Be proactive, be kind & be respectful. The people you interact with on this group will be future colleagues and there’s a high chance you might meet them during your interviews
/n Another #Facebook group offering useful information & advice is bit.ly/30tW9SG, run by Dr. Varun Agrawal @Vermont_Kidney. New topics are posted on a weekly basis & he frequently does live Q&A videos.
/n @studentdoctor had also been a wonderful place to find answers, I had found a particularly interesting thread initiated by a few program coordinators & program directors to help answer common questions asked by applicants regarding the application process ..
/n it’s a long thread (40 pages) but definitely worth the read bit.ly/2MGuC8u. Also, every year, a new thread pertaining to the match season is created by students so be on the lookout for that. The threads are usually titled “IM match 20XX”
/n #Twitter could also be good place to ask questions, haven’t been personally active on #Twitter during my match season but I’m pretty sure #medtwitter fam has got you covered.
/n As for books, I’ve read a pretty comprehensive book about the match called “The Successful Match” by Dr. Samir Desai, you can find it on @amazon. Make sure to get the most recent copy. Totally recommend #Match2021 #AskAnIMG
/n That being said, with these resources the rule of thumb is "if it’s on the internet doesn’t mean it’s true" there are plenty of misconceptions out there regarding the application process and rumors propagate so quickly! take everything with a grain of salt .. #AskAnIMG
/n .. & unfortunately some people try to send demotivational vibes in an attempt to be a step ahead of their peers. Bottom line, approach these online resources with caution & an open mind. Ask for help but also offer help in return #Match2021
/n Things I will be addressing in future threads will include: the Personal Statement, Letters of Recommendations, Curriculum Vitae, preparing the programs list & we'll see how things unfold after that #Match2021 #AskAnIMG
/n That being said, first, please keep in mind that the tips I will be giving out are based solely on my own experience and are only a personal opinion. Nothing I say is set in stone & every application is unique in its own way #Match2021 #AskAnIMG
/n Second, I am currently in the middle of a major interstate move, so please bear with me, might have some delays in tweeting.
/n Third, these threads are in no way intended to divide AMGs & IMGs, anyone is welcome to comment/give feedback, most of the recommendations here could be helpful for all medstudents regardless of their medschools #MedTwitter #Match2021
/n Good luck to all & congrats on making it this far! You got this. And remember, be kind to one another, do not foster a competitive & toxic environment! #MedTwitter #MedStudentTwitter #IMGMedTwitter #AskAnIMG
