Nearly half a million Albertans are unemployed or working reduced hours. Albertans are worried about jobs, our province’s economic future & the security of their families.

The Fair Deal report released today does nothing to address these real & urgent priorities. THREAD #ableg
Sadly, it is nothing more than a cynical, political distraction from this government’s failure to make progress on things that matter to Albertans.

Much of what is contained here is far beyond this government’s authority or jurisdiction. 2/ #ableg
One thing that is within the UCP government’s authority, are pensions.

The last thing Albertans want, is this Premier’s hands anywhere near their retirement savings.

3/ #ableg
Albertans are focused on finding work, getting their kids through school, finding a way to pay for university.

They’re focused on caring for their loved ones and making sure they get the best our health care system has to offer.

4/ #ableg
The last thing they want is to be forced into a desperate campaign in order to save their retirement from this Premier.

This report does nothing to build a more diversified and stronger economy.

It does nothing to get Albertans back to work. 5/ #ableg
In fact, it does nothing to create fairness for Albertans.

If the Premier was interested in creating fairness, he would ensure Albertans working on the front lines have access to paid sick leave.

He would provide cash support for struggling small businesses. 6/ #ableg
He would rehire the educational staff he fired as they were struggling to support special needs kids at the height of the pandemic.

7/ #ableg #abed
If the Premier were interested in fairness, he would commit to providing disaster relief to the residents of #yyc northeast who are reeling from the aftermath of one of the worst hail storms in recent memory.

8/ #ableg
Fairness would mean reversing his $4.7 billion corporate handout to profitable corporations.

Fairness would mean asking the wealthiest 1% to pay 1% more, instead of forcing additional costs on everyday, hard-hit Albertans.

9/ #ableg
Fairness would mean reversing the many costs they’ve imposed on so many Albertans.

Like higher property tax, higher income tax, increased school fees, skyrocketing insurance rates to name a few.

10/ #ableg
Fairness would mean ending his attack on doctors throughout this province.

And fairness would mean appointing Indigenous, Black, people of colour, & other marginalized people, along with women to agencies, boards, & commissions.

11/ #ableg #patients4abdocs #BlackLivesMatter
Fairness would mean fighting for Albertans so that they have the same access to federal initiatives like pharmacare, instead of looking for escape routes so Albertans are left to fend for themselves.

12/ #ableg
Albertans deserve a government that will fight for ALL of them, not just the UCP’s rich friends and insiders.

Albertans deserve a government that understands that growing inequality is not a jobs plan, and actually hurts our communities.

13/ #ableg
In short, Albertans deserve good jobs, small classrooms, strong health care, and a resilient, diversified economy that will take everyone into recovery.

In all fairness, Albertans deserve better.
