I had long suspected that there were ways to game the system at #Flickr. In the back of my head, I questioned the huge number of likes some photographers got. Today I ran into a guy with an account whose photos were so bad...

...it would have been surprising if he had one or two faves. Think washed out, bad composition, etc. He averaged more than a hundred likes per photo. This threw me for a loop and for awhile I felt like Job with all the people giving me advice...
...about how I should learn from this sociopath. One friend did some research for me and discovered that there are ways to buy faves, bots that will like your stuff. I will study it more so I can tell you how it works, but for now I shall be stupid...
...in the eyes of those who see nothing wrong with the technique and stick to my ethics.
I have found when I feel down, three kinds of people come forward. First are the ones who lecture you. Right now, I have a long essay on my Facebook page about how to solve my faves problem. Second are the ones who ignore you. Third are the golden ones...
...who listen and ask questions. Their goal isn't too get you to solve problems like they would solve them, but to help you find the way you would solve this. The lecturers pay more attention to their own voices than to your thought processes. I find it best...
...to keep responses brief without being too insulting -- just enough to gently tell them to get lost. I see a lot of advisers in support chatrooms. I often set them to ignore if I have no other reason to stay in contact. I also know listeners...
...who hear out the pain, empathize with your feelings, and you figure out what is going on. The listeners never suggest you give up your ethics which is one reason why they should be cherished. They don't get upset if the road you choose isn't their....
Most importantly you never need to tell them to fuck off because they don't give you advice unless you ask for it and they are fine if you don't take it.

I try to be a listener.
This is what I have learned today: a day spent in tantrums gets you nowhere. Don't expect people to pity me because I am on the unpitiable list. Expect most people to ignore you. Expect some people to advise you and when they do...
...expect them to be offended when you don't take it. Ignore that and ignore and sour grapes.

There is no do what you love and the money will follow in this world. Music is filled with talented people who go nowhere, for example, while SoundCloud...
... Is filled with mediocre tracks that have been pumped up by fake likes. Just do what you love. Expect bad days when you wonder why you aren't reaping the benefits. You can move on from these, from all the friends of Job who think they know...
...the ineffable course of the universe as it pertains to you.

You will find new selves as long as you are true to the love.

Van Gogh sold one painting in his life. He kept it up because it made him happy.
