I was honored to visit #Taiwan this week and bring the greetings of a very good friend of Taiwan, President Donald Trump. The visit strengthened the friendship between the United States and Taiwan and highlighted the global health leadership of Taiwan.
Thank you President Tsai @iingwen for warmly welcoming our delegation. We spoke about the friendship between the United States and Taiwan and how our shared democratic values have driven success in health.
At the Taiwan CDC, we met with @MOHW_Taiwan's Minister Chen and signed a joint statement as the American Institute in Taiwan and TECRO signed an MOU to expand on the longstanding collaboration on health between the United States and #Taiwan.
In our meeting with @MOFA_Taiwan Minister Wu we discussed our belief that Taiwan’s accomplishments should be recognized on the world stage and that #Taiwan should be able to share these lessons and its world-class expertise in international fora.
We also had a chance to meet with former Vice President Chen and public health experts who have helped lead Taiwan's response to COVID-19. We had a productive conversation about ways Taiwan and the United States can continue to work closely together.
Thank you Taiwan Vice President Lai for the warm welcome. Our visit reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to Taiwan as a free and open democracy in East Asia, and was a recognition of Taiwan’s health leadership.
At National Taiwan University, I emphasized that Taiwan is a democratic success story, a reliable partner, and a force for good in the world. #Taiwan's success in responding to the virus not only saved lives, but allowed them to aid others around the world.
Paid tribute to the late Taiwan President Lee Teng-hui and placed a note on the memorial wall at the Taipei Guest House. President Lee’s democratic legacy will forever propel the U.S.-Taiwan relationship forward.
At the Chang Hong face mask machine factory, we met with Vice Premier Shen and discussed the burgeoning U.S.–Taiwan economic relationship, #Taiwan’s economic success, and how its free-market model feeds Taiwan’s achievements in health.
