This is how I have generally seen it... it’s really not about people posting targeted ads in new ways that are so convincing cause psychology in messaging... This misses the wider point. This is more structural. 
this is not as much the type of activities I am focused on - people think information warfare is about sending about mass advertising 😬 no - you really have no idea, also small actions can produce big behavioral changes - you need to understand people to do that, not ads!
Yes - this is more about adapting and creating influence infrastructure not sending out ads - this is the REAL domain of propaganda
And this is one of the reasons 2016 was scary - this came of age in a way never seen before - no this wasn’t the same as Obama and it was combined with data harvesting and experimental methods that raised alarm bells... 🛎
Yes I agree completely- again this gets back to my arguments about how this is a structural problem more broadly not just ‘ad targeting’ and persuasive messaging
Quite honestly if you are talking about ad buys you do not understand information warfare.
I have been so so so frustrated with the media on #CambridgeAnalytica - focusing on the #Facebook scandal and not understanding #CambridgeAnalytica scandal was more than microtargeting - yeeeesh! If someone tells you information warfare is placing ads they have no clue
And it’s not all about big data - sexy tech - gawwwwd - yes data harvesting and yes surveillance but not mass ads necessarily. Yes pushing something out is important but smaller targeted actions and strategies might be at the heart of that - the rest is just dissemination.
If ads are useful it’s most useful as a way of testing messaging because you can track it
