Good question. So I googled “what do you say to Americans...” for Obama and Bush as to compare to Trump’s abuse of NBC reporter. Here is what I found 1/
In interview with Miami TV station in 2012 Obama offered long answer on a coming “fiscal cliff” and shared empathy with those “worried...” thehill.com/policy/finance…
Here is Bush in 2006 answering a hypothetical he said he didn’t want to answer about “frustrated” Americans. He worked through some diplomacy and thanked some world leaders 3/ nytimes.com/2006/07/07/wor…

Charlie Kirk has new @Newsweek editorial out about #coronavirus. The takeaway: Kirk doesn't want to criticize Trump so he goes "ethics is complicated." And, Kirk digs shallow in Philosophy 101 to keep himself from angering the cult leader. A thread 1/ newsweek.com/charlie-kirk-e…
Kirk leans hard into #Gaslighting Trump started this week with a clarion call: "It is impossible to dispute the math that taking extreme action now will lessen the spread of the virus." But he then turns that clarity into a mushy sitting on the fence, aka "complicated." 2/
In order to frame himself an ethicist keen on complex thought, Kirk builds a false premise: "In our current moment, our leaders are being forced to choose between two terrible decisions—either destroy the economy and save lives, or save the economy and lose lives..." Except... 3/

Evangelical theologian Wayne Grudem goes all-in with Trump talking points. Or “Trump Should Not Be Removed from Office: A Response to Mark Galli and Christianity Today” 1/ townhall.com/columnists/way…
I was tempted to stop reading after Grudem - a professor of ethics! - badly mischaracterizes July 25 call & the “investigations” Trump asked for. Grudem repeats debunked lie that prosecutor Biden “got fired” was investigating Hunter. Nope. 2/
usatoday.com/story/news/pol…
Grudem bases his “Galli didn’t say how Trump violated Constitution” claim on this lie, even quoting Constitution: “I know of nothing in our Constitution or laws that says there is anything wrong with seeking help from a foreign government in investigating possible corruption.” 3/

This is not the first time @charliekirk11 has used the phrase "ruling class." If you are looking for insight into why people like Kirk - libertarians Tea Party, etc. - worship and promote Trump and call him a movement, this phrase is key. A thread 1/
The article Kirk links to in that Newsweek editorial is a well-read (by such people) article that became a book by Boston College professor Angelo Codevilla published in @amspectator in 2010 2/ independent.org/publications/a…
Codevilla is PhD graduate of the conservative Claremont College, worked on Capitol Hill for many years, also teaching at various places, including conservative think tank at Stanford, ending up at Boston University (sorry, my bad in above tweet) 3/ en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angelo_Co…
