Sweden.
Is being used by the #CovidDeniers as the example to follow because "they didn't lock down."
Let's spread some dangerous facts
Sweden didn't lockdown as a matter of law. But the people behaved as if the rule existed.
As a result, their economy was impacted⏬
The impact on their economy was not due to some other factor than covid19 that is being "misapplied".
It was exactly the same as if a lockdown applied ⏬
Swedes didn't lie back and smoke dope hoping for herd immunity.
Unlike, for example the UK, they made extensive preparation early on for treatment and invested in track, test and trace capabilities while the UK SHUT DOWN its version of the same.
Sweden was wildly misrepresented by right wing media (and some on left) as a rod with which to defend some (eg Trump) or attack others (eg countries having more legal controls).
The Swedish PM was written up as a maverick ignoring WHO warnings.
None of this is true.
As shown above the Swedes did not achieve an economic miracle with their approach but they also didn't achieve a death rate miracle.
Like the UK considerably more people died. The difference would be Sweden chose to use advice not law and did so transparently.
UK fumbled.
Sweden isn't a place that takes a laissez-faire attitude to health care.
Quite the opposite
(Old chart but latest I could find. If new data disputes this point let me know)
There is much for the UK to learn about Sweden on Covid19.
But the lessons are in honesty in Government, correct reporting of science and media bias.
With those we might be in a better position for the next peak.
As the Swedes are.
And we are not.
Two points to close.
1. If you know Swedes you know advice versus law is natural not radical.
2. All facts and sources here can be found in 5 minutes online. So if you're reading or listening to something else your reporter is either badly researched or biased. So why listen?
You might conclude there are no data on lab lib overt/covert pacts.
You wonder. Has no one analysed whether to compete?
TLDR you'd be right to ask. And maybe then surprised. The bigger issue is that 75% of #Johnson's seats are due to a huge mess-up on this in 2019

Lest any of us forget, this was an event, the result of a policy of hate directed toward a marginalised community unable to defend itself by lying positions wishing to rabble rouse and distract a disenchanted set of deceived voters.
