The Great Barrington Declaration claiming to represent over 5,000 medical & public health scientists to promote herd immunity from #COVID19 is a gigantic fraud. Here's how I know. To test it out, *I* signed it pretending to be such a scientist with a Harvard degree. Easy. /1
There are no meaningful standards, checks or controls for new 'scientists' signing Declaration in addition to original signatories. I used the name 'Mad Scientist', masqueraded as Professor, faked my Harvard PhD, and used a Zipcode from New York University School of Medicine. /2
My fake profile for the Great Barrington Declaration allowed me, myself and I to confirm the fake information I submitted, allowing me to receive a simple email verification to get my 'Medical & Public Health' scientist signatory status confirmed /3
Result. And the lesson here is: Anyone who wants to masquerade as one of thousands of 'Medical & Public Health Scientists' endorsing the Great Barrington Declaration can easily do so. Sign up now! Use fraud to support Science! /4
Forgive me for the tongue-in-cheek approach, but in all seriousness, this is appalling. Media outlets & politicians claiming that the Barrington letter is supported by over 5,000 medical and public health scientists are promoting unverified and unverifiable fake news. /END
There's something you can do about this as a concerned British citizen. Write formally to the BBC, Mail and other media as well as the regulator, IPSO, complaining about the inaccuracy of their reporting on this Declaration representing thousands of scientists. Thank you.
Oh, one more thing by way of further circumstantial evidence of fraud. In around just 10 minutes, the 'scientist' signatory count jumped by 35. That's a lot of 'scientists' being automatically added with no checks by the good folks in Barrington where it was shortly after 6am.
And now it begins to make sense. Documents and corporate records suggest that the Declaration is sponsored by a climate science denial network funded by Koch foundations bylinetimes.com/2020/10/09/cli…

THREAD: As confirmed coronavirus cases surge beyond the UK Govt’s expectations, I've received msgs relaying experience of a doctor at UCL Hospital in London, the friend of a mutual 3rd party. The msgs from 3rd describe a phone call with the doctor. medium.com/insurge-intell… /1
I've not been able to speak directly with the doctor but I've independently verified the authenticity this account. It is alarming by any standard, and corroborates the new Imperial College report indicating that UK Govt strategy has already failed
medium.com/insurge-intell… /2
According to the messages, UCL hospital is already becoming overwhelmed w/#coronavirus cases. The doctor “has not seen anything like what she witnessed today. It’s the beginning of the storm.” Msg refers to “no of people coming in” and asserts “This is just the beginning.” /3

THREAD: I believe Boris Johnson's strategy on #COVID_19uk is fundamentally flawed & at odds with available scientific data. I'm NOT an epidemiologist, but I am a complex systems analyst specialising in societal collapse risks. This is why I'm concerned /1 medium.com/insurge-intell…
People should NOT panic, but they should take as much precautionary mutual-collective action as possible to avert a potential worst-case scenario. The govt's failure to facilitate this will be disastrous - in my opinion. This is why I hold that opinion /2 medium.com/insurge-intell…
The govt claims that early large-scale action is unnecessary and could be counterproductive. Yet numerous epidemiological studies show that early social distancing intervention is the best way to reduce and limit deaths and the epidemic size /3 medium.com/insurge-intell…

THREAD: Coronavirus, synchronous failure and the global phase-shift. Breaking this down into the key points. medium.com/insurge-intell… Key theme is that it's human systems that will determine major social outcomes from the novel #coronavirus /1
Vast majority who get the #coronavirus will be fine. BUT: we don't know true fatality rate yet, but appears at least 10 times worse than ordinary flu - could be several times worse. People who are older, ill and critically ill are more at risk. medium.com/insurge-intell… /2
Infection rate is probably higher than originally believed. Studies suggest at least half, if not more, of infected travellers being screened were not being detected. This fits with some evidence of the risk of asymptomatic spread during incubation medium.com/insurge-intell… /3

Grant Shapps, transport secretary, re Sabisky’s views on black people having lower IQ: “not my views and those are not the views of the government”. PM's deputy official spokesman says - Shapps **speaking only for himself.** WTF. theguardian.com/politics/2020/…
I wrote this 12 years ago when Boris Johnson became mayor - a fairly comprehensive catalogue of his racism and xenophobia. Puts in context the PM's inability to condemn the eugenics bullshit his government is platforming nafeezahmed.net/thecuttingedge…
The PM: "No doubt the AK47s will fall silent, and the pangas will stop their hacking of human flesh, and the tribal warriors will all break out in watermelon smiles to see the big white chief touch down in his big white British taxpayer-funded bird.” [Telegraph (10/01/2002)]

THREAD: West’s ‘dust bowl’ future now ‘locked in’, as world risks imminent food crisis medium.com/insurge-intell… my latest on how climate change will ravage global and regional water and food systems. A breakdown of core findings in this story follows /1
Moody's, one of the world's top global credit ratings agencies, sponsored research via its climate analytics outfit, Four Twenty Seven, concluding that past climate emissions will now 'lock in' double-digit reductions in dry season rainfall in parts of US and Europe by 2100 /2
In other words, 'dust bowl'-like conditions which devastated the American Great Plains will hit parts of the Wests in eighty years. This is *going to happen* due to carbon emissions in the atmosphere (unless we not only stop emissions now, but remove those past emissions) /3

THREAD: The collapse of civilization may have already begun – my major feature for @VICE exploring the big unresolved debate around the probability of a near-term event, global long-term risks, and most importantly, what happens after collapse /1 vice.com/en_us/article/…
@VICE This has been a polarising piece. So I’m setting out key findings and questions here. The piece launches off from trying to assess Jem Bendell's warning of near-term societal collapse within 10 years due to climate change. Opens up other questions /2 vice.com/en_us/article/…
@VICE On the question of whether near-term societal collapse is inevitable within 10 years, there is simply no scientific evidence to support this conclusion. Not a single scientist I spoke to would endorse this. Even Bendell described it as a 'guess' /3 vice.com/en_us/article/…
