THREAD πππ
I've reported extensively on Ivanka Trump and her scurrilous business practices. But Tiffany was in law school and largely--and smartly-- out of the public eye. Now she is campaigning and lying for Trump and using #LGBTQ people to do so. It's shameful. 1/x
Tiffany held a rally Saturday with former DNI Richard Grenell, one of the only out gays in Trump's admin, to cull #LGBTQ votes for Trump--the most virulently homophobic and transphobic president in my lifetime, and that includes Reagan & Bush1 who actively let gay men die.
2/x
For 4yrs in both the queer and mainstream press, I have reported on the dangerously anti-#LGBTQ policies of Trump, Pence, Pompeo, Sessions, Barr, DeVos, Carson, Kelly, Severino and myriad HHS appointees. You don't even know most of it, there is so much. It's harrowing.
3/x
Pompeo is remaking State as an evangelical fiefdom and carrying that message through to our mission abroad, appointing blatantly homophobic & transphobic people to helm crucial positions here and abroad and using the vast budget of state to support anti-LGBTQ govts.
4/x
DeVos has been on an anti-#LGBTQ campaign her entire adult life--as was her father. She has remade the Dept of Education to support anti-LGBTQ initiatives. She is especially focused on queer and trans students.
5/x
Ben Carson was always a homophobe, but as HUD Sect he's used his power to deny #LGBTQ people housing. And HHS has pushed so many anti-LGBTQ policies it would take a dozen threads to list them all. So has DHS--including denying asylum to #LGBTQ people in fear for their lives.
6/x
VP Pence has a long
anti-gay history, including his time in Congress, his governorship and now his vice presidency. Trump himself joked in 2018 that Pence wants to "hang all the gays." The CDC held Pence responsible for a mini-outbreak of HIV in Indiana due to his policies.
7/x
AG Barr fought employment protections for #LGBTQ people, as did Sessions before him.Employees in the DOJ considered Barr so anti-LGBTQ, they filed a formal letter of complaint regarding low morale due to his attitudes toward LGBTQ people.
8/x
Trump put three anti-LGBTQ jurists on the Supreme Court, none of whom considers Obergefell v Hodges settled law. Kamala Harris elicited that info from Kavanaugh. Mazie Hirono elicited it from Amy Coney Barrett. They, and Gorsuch, would overturn that ruling with opportunity.
9/x
There is so much more--the trans military ban; the attack on #LGBTQ healthcare; the support for anti-LGBTQ "religious freedom" laws. So Tiffany claiming her father is pro-LGBTQ (like her father she couldn't even say the acronym) is another Trump lie. Don't fall for it.
10/10
I reported on this, which just flew right under the radar, like everything Pompeo does. He is the most powerful and dangerous of Trump's Cabinet. And has massive funding for his actions.
Pompeo's Human Rights Panel Subverts #LGBTQ and Women's Rights
I also reported on how Pompeo is using State and his $40B budget and USAID to bolster anti-LGBTQ policies abroad among US allies and not-so-allies. State supports myriad anti-LGBT+ governments now via Pompeo.
There are dozens of stories. These are just a few recent ones that give you an indicator of what a humongous lie Tiffany Trump is telling when she claims her father supports #LGBTQ people. He is passionately invested in harming queer and trans people with his dangerous policies.

Very interesting night. Anyone who watched the #BidenTownHall AND the #TrumpTownHall had to be asking what they really want in a leader. Trump was as least civil to the voters questioning him, but he was also impatient and testy (is he still on steroids?).
Biden was calm and thorough in his answers. Knowledgeable. No raised voices, no arguments. He got no push back at all from George Stephanopoulos, who was barely moderating. The voters led. The #BidenTownHall was the antithesis of the #TrumpTownHall.
But Trump did himself no favors by attacking Savanah Guthrie. It was appallingly abusive and misogynist. #TrumpTownHall
Biden references "a young man who became a woman." Trans people *are* they don't *become,* but he is definitely trying to address this issue of safety and non-discrimination for trans people with compassion and clarity. #BidenTownHall
Twitter erased my thread on this: an immigrant mother of two kids, one of whom is trans, asks Biden what he will do about the discrimination that the Trump Administration has visited on trans and other LGBTQ people. #BidenTownHall
Biden says he will overturn any discriminatory rulings from Trump. He cites the murders of trans WOC and other trans people who have been disproportionately affected by violence. He says he will address discrimination against #LGBTQ. #BidenTownHall
#FireChuckTodd is trending. How many know the women at @MSNBC--Joy Reid, Nicolle Wallace, Rachel Maddow--all have advanced degrees, but Chuck Todd & Brian Williams have no degrees. Todd was mentored by Tim Russert & brought into cable by Chris Matthews. White men always fail up.
The thing is, I don't have an issue with folks being in journalism via working in journalism like Brian Williams and Chuck Todd have done their whole adult lives. But women don't get those same opportunities *without* degrees.
The reason to #FireChuckTodd isn't because he has no journalism degree--but that he's bad at his job. And arranging to have Trump do a town hall at the same time as Biden when Trump already cancelled on the original debate just continues MSNBC's too-cozy relationship with Trump.
In an interview Sunday on @NewYorker radio on @NPR, Dr. Fauci spoke about violent threats to himself and family. He said in the 80s & 90s he got threats from "right wingers" who "didn't like me spending so much time on AIDS and 'queers' or whatever they called gays then."
1/x
Fauci said those people were a small faction, but now it's very extreme. He says no one should be threatening a "public health official." Fauci says, "I am not the enemy. The enemy is the virus." Fauci also spoke about vaccines and communities of color.
2/x
Folks may forget it was Fauci who raised the issue of disparity in infection and death rates in BIPOC communities and that had to be addressed and Trump et al ignored his concerns. He spoke about that again & said Black and brown communities have reason to distrust the govt.

THREAD π So no joke I was too depressed to write about #WorldMentalHealthDay. I meant to put up a series I did on #LGBTQ mental health and didn't. I meant to put up some interviews I did with MH experts on the "collective trauma" we are experiencing, but I just couldn't.
1/x
For months I've been being treated for an exacerbation of #PTSD with concomitant depression & anxiety. I was going to write something profound about that, but instead took a Xanax, cried for a bit, read some poetry (which I used to write), tried not to crawl out of my skin.
2/x
I mostly wanted to say that we all need to be able to talk about how mental illness is often crushing, the pain as exhausting as physical pain. I wanted to say to folks who are suffering that you are not alone--there are millions of us. But I was unable to do any of it. Sigh.

My SNAP intake appointment was scheduled for 11:15am. It's 11:52 and they still haven't called me. My anxiety level is ridiculous.
The changes the government puts the working poor through is freaking ridiculous. 45mins and counting.
So my scheduled appointment--which I got snailmail notice of 10 days ago--was an hour ago. No call. It's pretty upsetting. And of course I am thinking about the other women who have been waiting for their calls and not gotten them, as well. Begging for help is tough enough. Yeesh
