Breaking: @appledaily_hk reported that #HongKong teen activist Tony Chung has reportedly been taken away by several national security police when he was on his way to seek political asylum at the U.S. Consulate in #HongKong. hk.appledaily.com/local/20201027…
According to U.K.-based Friends of Hong Kong, they lost contact with Chung at 8 a.m. this morning. He was originally planned to report to the police department after he was charged with violating the #NSL earlier this year.
Chung reportedly sought help from Friends of #HongKong to seek asylum at the U.S. Consulate in the city since he has been unable to leave HK after police took away his passport following his initial arrest.
Friends of #HongKong said when Chung arrived at the U.S. Consulate this morning, the consulate was still closed. He found a place to sit down at a nearby coffee shop, and around 8:10 a.m., Chung told Friends of Hong Kong that he was being followed.
Then he said he was unable to get rid of people who were following him. 4 minutes after that, he lost contact with Friends of #HongKong. Witness reportedly said Chung was taken away by at least four people who were suspected to be police from the national security unit.

"The article could easily have been written as a success story of a group of Chinese Americans who cherish their First Amendment rights and have succeeded in growing a large independent media outlet."
