THREAD: How Ontario all but ceased conducting comprehensive inspections of long-term care homes. @CBCNews revealed today that only 9 of 626 homes received a full "resident quality inspection" (RQI) last year. #COVID19 cbc.ca/news/canada/se…
In June 2013, the government committed to annual comprehensive inspections of all long-term care homes in the province. These typically took 3-4 inspectors about 8 days, including interviews with staff & residents and a focus on infection prevention.

THREAD: Let’s break down the claim by the Ford government that it is devoting $17B in new money on the response to #COVID19 ... because that isn’t actually true.
The bulk of the $17B is $10B in deferrals of business taxes and @WSIB premiums. It’s not “spending” and it’s also not revenue the province will forego forever. In fact, Finance Ministry officials confirmed the province still expects to collect that revenue later this fiscal year
Govt claims $1.5B in “new spending” on electricity cost relief. It’s not actually new, as total hydro subsidy is $5.6B, roughly what was spent in 2019-20. It’s only “new” compared to what was *budgeted* for 2019-20. And ... it’s not because of #COVID19

I got wondering where @fordnation came up with this figure that billboards along Ontario highways could generate “a couple hundred million” in revenue for the province. So I did some research, and some math.

The report on the Ron Taverner selection does not fully exonerate the government. The integrity commissioner finds "troubling aspects to the (hiring) process that may have led, perhaps unintentionally, to a preference being given to one candidate."
